On topic: Captain kagi

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

So, I don't think most people consider this pilot at all. And to be honest, I do agree that he has major flaws. However. Can he be useful? Powerful?

Does he need a point reduction or an EPT?

I was pretty well beaten by this list:

Kagi HLC rebel captive 38

Tetran cowall wingman 25

3 APs 36

99

(Builder isn't working on my phone sorry)

I was able to only allow two shots from kagi the whole game and I was saving him for last as Soontir vs kagi but a last minute block with kagi let his Terran who had gotten rather lucky and survived get the last needed shot on me.

Not being able to TL did do some strong work on reducing my firepower.

With the wingman he was able to do harder turn than normal.

Much of my success at atopping his shooting was due to good asteroid placement and poor guessing on his part of where I went the first few turns.

Being able to place the shuttle at ps 8 seems very strong. You get a very good placement for forcing engagements. The cheapness also allows for some blockers and other filler.

Shooting first and not being something you can see move first also plays a big deal because how far large ships move and the difference between a move and not moving at all.

I would try this:

Kagi fcs 30

Soontir fel ptl hull 33

3 AP 36

99

Advanced sensors is also great. Making hard turns much better and getting away with the ps8.

On the last note, I really wish kagi had an ept so at least I could put veteran instincts on for ps10 mucho damage phantom catcher. For one or two turns.

My swarm list was getting eaten alive by a 5 Assault + Failsafe list.
I included Kagi to fix that.

It worked.

I've never really understood Kagi's use until I read Draco's post. Seems like a pretty hard counter to all the fun ordinance types we have gadding about these days.

Interesting. Yeah, I think that using Kagi would be a great counter to ordnance based builds.

Translation: Kagi's ability is useless against practically every major list.

Those are the best kind of lists though. The ones that are pretty 'meh' 90% of the time, but just shut down fun for the other 10% of players.

He seems like a tech inclusion. So probably only good if you know what you're up against. The 8 PS is more tempting than his ability though.

Actually. I've seen much more fcs use recently. Roark 3 B.

Or on shuttles to kill Falcons. Or on phantoms for higher dps.

Also mucks with vessery.

So. Any possibly good builds with kagi?

I actually think the above build I posted is okay. Decent against Falcons. And you have 3 ties to use to block phantoms.

Exactly. You need to know the meta. Though, I think that Kagi might become more important if Rebel players start using Nera Dantels, Lt. Blount, and/or general Z-95+missile more often in their builds.

Captian Kagi + sensor Jamers is the anti target lock list. Throw in Canor Jax and Dark Curse and you got a nice anti-action squadron. Question is how would you suit up Captian Kagi. I'm thinking buzzsaw. He doesn't need Vader to add Agro.

I really want to try to use Kagi with Enhanced Scopes. Probable first move in activation, then butt in line to shoot early.

Yeah the enhanced scopes seem pretty fun on him. Though I feel like I like advanced sensors more.
