So, looking through mass combat rules in BFK, I am disappointed. Does anyone have rules for mass combat frop another book perhaps, or even some lovely homebrewed goodness?
Good rules for mass combat?
The Frozen Reaches has a good version that inspired BFK's.
One player each rolls Lore: Tactica Imperialis, Logic, Command, Deceive, and Pilot: Atmospheric. Give bonuses based on the PCs' forces in comparison to the enemy
-40 if not even Creed could win this engagement
-30 if outnumbered and tactically screwed by a superior force.
-20 if the enemy has any two: greater numbers, better soldiers, or a tactical advantage
-10 if the enemy has any one: greater numbers, better soldiers, or a tactical advantage
+0 if the forces are evenly matched
+10-40 if the players hold the opposite advantage
The enemy rolls opposed the PCs. All degrees of success are subtracted as from the opposing forces as casualties or broken troops.
Example: Orky forces are wrecking the trader's holdings on Quaddis.
He meets them in the open field, hoping to break their backs before they take the spaceport. The Void Master rolls pilot against the Freebootah in charge of the took assault. The Explorer rolls Logic, opposed by the Mek Boys. The Militant rolls Tactica Imperialis, opposed by the nobs. The Seneschal rolls Deceit, opposed by the Kommando Nob. The Missionary assists the Trader's Command roll, who is opposed by the Warboss hisself.
Total up the degrees of success for each side pc or opposed. This number is subtracted from the opposing force as a percentage. No matter who wins, these casualties are suffered. Whoever gets the most DoS wins the day.
If the Void master rolls 5 DoS, 5% ogr the Orky forces are lost to the air superiority missions. Even if the freebootah rolls 6 degrees of success, cutting down 6% of the humie forces.
My players really enjoyed Frozen Reaches. We tried BFK after that, and although the rules are similar, they didn't like it. I made some home brews. The love was back. I can give access if you like. You still have to make a map of the area being fought over. Hexagon maps don't work well for this. You need area movement maps.

@Errant Knight
I really like your system, thank you.
@gdiddy
I like this too. I shall put up both for review by the GM. Thanks to all who answered the call.
Thanks. It's still just BFK...with some fixes. You bring it back to Frozen Reaches with the maps you create. While playing FR my players figured out that the best way, according to BFK, to beat the Orks was to equip 10 million Damarins with a sharp stick and a rock. Since that was less than epic and heroic, we needed some fixes when we went past that adventure.
One of the parts my players really liked out of Damaris that didn't make it to the BFK was the unit "specials", like how Storm Troopers got +5 strength on offensive operations, or the skitarii always took 1 less damage each round. Its a good way to flavor units that would otherwise be very similar, as well as to allow for a few more tactical choices.
Yeah. In the end, a hard set of rules isn't advisable. Some stuff just needs special treatment.
