Convention play: Which Scenario?

By Emirikol, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I'm going to run 1 slot (4 hours) at an upcoming convention.

Which should I run?

* Winds of Change

* Horror at Hugeldal

* Crimson Rain

* Mirror of Desire

Which one fits best into a 4 hour period?

jh

Have run both Horror at Hugeldal and Mirror of Desire as a GM and think both are great warhammer adventures. At the moment I'm a player in Crimson Rain. But I have not read or played Winds of Change, so I have no imput about that adventure. I'll keep this as spoiler free as possible, so I'll just give my general thoughts.

I think that Mirror of Desire might be better suited at a convension, I feel that it's easier to fit into a 4 hour gaming session. The gepgrafical scope (in game) of the adventure and the limited time to act makes it easier to get the gaming group to get a sense of urgency and focus on solving the adventure early on. All in all it's a fun and varied adventure.

Horror at Hugeldal is a really fun adventure, but my feeling is that it takes more time than Mirror of Desire or Crimson Rain. It's also (in my opinion) harder to force than the two others. We played it early on, so both me as a GM and my players were quite new in WFRP 3ed, so that may have impacted my perception of the adventure. But we had a lot of fun with the adventure and it's certainly possible, with some work, to fit into 4 hours.

As I said I'm a player at the moment in Crimson Rain. We aren't finished with the adventure so I'm not certain how much is left of the adventure. There seems to be a lot of "events" throughout the adventure that will happen regardless of what the players do, which means that as a GM it might be easier to decide that after say 30 minutes of gaming the first event will happen and so on. I also feel that there are some parts of the adventure that can be left out, to speed things up, and there are sections where you could insert an ending if pressed for time, as a player I have felt during play that "this might be the finale of the adventure". This might make time management easier as a GM and ensure that you get through the adventure in 4 hours.

To sum up, I do believe Crimson Rain is easiest to fit into the 4 hours. However Mirror of Desire (and Horror of Hugeldal) feel a bit more varied as adventures go. So if I were in your shoes I'd probably go with Mirror of Desire, because Slaneesh.

Speaking of interestin things..did you all read Graemes most recent blog post?

I assume you're refering to the super secret project he mentiones in the post about Colonial Gothic?

I agree that it will be really interesting to see what project that might be.

I remember when i was first introduced to WFRP at Games workshop Gamesdays, there was a show by the Hogshead people, They did a Gladitoral tournament, last thing standing. I was the trollslayer, I didnt last long, got ganged up on.

They had 3 GM's to handle the multiple combats that werent in same engagements so that loads of combat could be at same time so to save time.

Maybe more combat oriented, but was fun.

Could have it so to have a pre-fight roleplay so people can do social roleplay to influence what they get to use.

Design some characters to hand out. and using the same template have them either 1. poorly equipped due to failing, 2 normal equiped for passing 3. exceptional due to crit passing.

Hard to know what to fit into 4 hours, if you wish to show to alot of people. I dont know how long they last, in our seesions 4 hours seems to be a drop in the ocean

Make a card.
