Taskforce Aces High

By Red Winter, in X-Wing

In lieu of playing games, I've been messing with some list building. Does anyone have any after action reviews of something similar to the following?

Taskforce Aces High

Tycho Celchu — A-Wing 26 Push the Limit 3 Chardaan Refit -2 Veteran Instincts 1 A-Wing Test Pilot 0 Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24 Push the Limit 3 Chardaan Refit -2

Prototype Pilot — A-Wing 17 Chardaan Refit -2

Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29 Push the Limit 3

Task Force Ace

Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29 Push the Limit 3 Advanced Sensors 3 Engine Upgrade 4

Green Squadron Pilot — A-Wing 19 Outmaneuver 3 Chardaan Refit -2 Push the Limit 3 A-Wing Test Pilot 0 Green Squadron Pilot — A-Wing 19 Outmaneuver 3 Chardaan Refit -2 Push the Limit 3 A-Wing Test Pilot 0 Prototype Pilot — A-Wing 17 Chardaan Refit -2

Unfortunately I don't use A-wings often so I can't help you there, but Keyan is Great with PTL as long as you spend the stress during combat.

Yeah, I've been able to use Keyan. He is a beast. Honestly, I'm a little flabbergasted by the lack of Keyan appreciation on the boards. It's comical really. A study in forum life cycle. When Keyan was announced, the sky literally fell here. But now, there is not much of a peep on his incredible ability.

You better be listening to Iron Maiden when you play this list

I haven't had as much luck with Keyan. He is a blast, but man, does he draw the fire, and he doesn't take it well.

Personally I'd try to get some ordnance on at least 2 A-wings. Keyan is a sitting duck when surrounded by A-wings, so your opponent will likely get too eager to deal with Keyan early in the game, and when he does your A-wings will gladly jam some missiles into his side. If not then it will at least keep some pressure off Keyan as your opponent will be wary of those missiles.

As for luck with Rebel Aces, the first shot I ever fired with Jake, he turned Vader into a PS 0. ^^

Last game he one-shot a Turr who ran over an asteroid and took damage from it first. Jake is now my little sniper it seems. :3

Well, I tested out the first list today.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Taskforce Aces High. The combination of maneuverability, pilot abilities and ship types worked very well. Sadly, I did lose Farrell in the process, but the rest of my squadron was able to overwhelm a dual Firespray list. Tycho was dominant and healthily stocked with stress by the end of the game. He does not get enough credit, in my humble opinion.

In retrospect, I think keeping Farrell and Tycho is important for the lists wily aggressiveness. I may take Keyan out and replace him with a Blue-HLC for a little more umph. My other list, Taskforce Ace, has greens with Outmaneuver. I want to find a way to get Outmaneuver onto a couple of A's in Aces High. The trouble is that VI seems so critical on Tycho to get at least one shot off first. Although, it may be better to shoot second so you can reserve those tokens for defense first, offense second.

Bottom line: I definitely look forward to playing it again in the future. I would like to use something like it in the next big release tournament. We'll see. This year I may be able to try my hand at the regional level. How great would it be to take a few wins with an unorthodox list?

Next iteration of Aces High:

Tycho Celchu - VI, PtL, Refit

Jake Farrell - Outmanevuer, PtL, Refit

Prototype - Refit

Blue Squadron - HLC

Packs a little more punch.
