How can we be more inclusive of those who are socio-economically disadvantaged?

By Radzap, in X-Wing

At the risk of sounding elitist,I have a simple question for you. If you feel that being competitive requires a person to have the purchasing power or the means to acquire the aformentioned "power cards"above else and/or that FFG or whatever company for that matter does not conciously think of the "marginalized" during their game design is intently evil, why would that "marginalized" person enter the game with unreal and unrealistic expectations? Compared to a lot of other miniature games out there, many of which I have or still am playing, X-wing is relatively cheaper at the same time being better mechanically than most games with horrendous entry costs.

In every joke thread, there must be one guy that doesn't get it. Thank you, Ichiyo1821, for heroically remaining oblivious. Thanks to your sacrifice, the rest of us can get the joke.

The real joke here is that the OP and those that "approve" of this message (and tactic) are making the game less inclusive by posting topics and comments like this. Is making a thread that degrades, makes fun of, and lessons the gender thread while using the socio-economically disadvantaged for humor an "inclusive act"?

If you are going to post about serious subjects such as socio-economically disadvantages in modern times then you should do so in the proper place. This forum has nothing to do with sociology, equal opportunity, or anything of civil rights. So posting here about those topics is a waste of effort and completely pointless. Would you be annoyed if before you roll the dice to attack in a game I stop you to tell you an important statistic that each year over 2000 children are reported missing? You'd probably ask where the heck did that come from and my only response is that it is "more important than this game" (which you could point out that I am also hypocritically playing instead of looking for missing children).

There is a time and a place to point out these messages, and that this is not the place. X-wing miniatures is a game it is a hobby it is nothing to take too seriously. Likewise nothing of that seriousness should be posted here.

And another thing about SJW posts, I know it is the popular fad but really one must question their own motivations for becoming a SJW poster. If they really are serious about social equality and helping those that need it then they should be looking for measures that they can do to actually improve these things. If they are just looking for attention then they are being the SJW for all the WRONG reasons and thus hurting social equality more than helping it.

Lol.

On a serious note, I recommend Vassal to all who cannot afford to buy every new wave that comes out immediately.

On Vassal, you can practice anything you want, all the time, without spending money on gas. Gender equal, as your username is up to you.

After all the practice, if you want to go to a real life tourney, just purchase the ships you plan on using, or better yet, try to borrow from a friend. They wont need their entire collection for a 100pt squad.

I appreciate the humor of this thread, but I also appreciate a more serious side to it. It would be a great thing for players of this game to reach out disadvantaged kids. A great aspect of table top gaming is you don't even need to buy into it to play--you just need to be invited by someone who has it. For poor kids, there are probably far worse places to end up on weekend evenings than hanging out with some gamers at the FLGS. Table Top gaming in general is a great, great hobby, and there are probably lots of people who cannot afford that $50 or $100 game but who would love to exercise some strategic thinking with some new friends. It could be a wonderful way to be sort of big - sibling - ish to someone who needs it.

Thats the one downside to LCGs, you have no "leftover" cards, With stuff like Magic you can give your unwanted cards to new players...
