Remember when we used to talk about X-Wing on these forums? Those were good times.
How can we be more inclusive of those who are socio-economically disadvantaged?

You know. I want a new Mercedes G Wagon. But I can't afford it...
Can we go whine and complain on their forums to see if we can start a car share program for he poor,..,
Because Darrnit. I want one!!!!
/sarcasm
**** right you should son! Remember, this is a feels based economy and you are entitled to what ever you want regardless of the social political consequence.
In every joke thread, there must be one guy that doesn't get it. Thank you, Ichiyo1821, for heroically remaining oblivious. Thanks to your sacrifice, the rest of us can get the joke.At the risk of sounding elitist,I have a simple question for you. If you feel that being competitive requires a person to have the purchasing power or the means to acquire the aformentioned "power cards"above else and/or that FFG or whatever company for that matter does not conciously think of the "marginalized" during their game design is intently evil, why would that "marginalized" person enter the game with unreal and unrealistic expectations? Compared to a lot of other miniature games out there, many of which I have or still am playing, X-wing is relatively cheaper at the same time being better mechanically than most games with horrendous entry costs.
The real joke here is that the OP and those that "approve" of this message (and tactic) are making the game less inclusive by posting topics and comments like this. Is making a thread that degrades, makes fun of, and lessons the gender thread while using the socio-economically disadvantaged for humor an "inclusive act"?
I see what you are saying, but the thing is that the other thread already became a mockery of itself. It started out fine, but ended in long rhetorics of people reiterating themselves and not truely listening to eachother but just repeating their pov until they think the other party was convinced. Thats not an actual discussion.
Basically the whole topic went like this:
A: There is this problem in x-wing what can we do to solve it?
B: I don't think there really is a problem in x-wing
A: well clearly there is a problem, so how can we solve it
B: Thing is, there really is not a problem
A: You keep saying that but clearly there is a problem and needs to be solved
B: Well, but I truely think there is not a problem to be solved her
A: Ok, if you dont see the problem and dont know how to solve it, what are you doing here, we need to solve the problem I clearly see
B: Because I see where you are coming from, I just dont think there is a problem to solve within x-wing
A: I think your trying to attack me, so Ill just repeat, there is this problem and needs to be solved
B: no, there is not a problem that needs to be solved
A: Why do you keep returning if you do not have a solution ?
B: Why do you keep thinking there is a problem ?
and than rinse repeat. Oh yeah and there were some people, talking about video games....
You know. I want a new Mercedes G Wagon. But I can't afford it...

Well if they'd release wave 5...
All I know is that I want my new BTL title YWings.
So there
To the mods: Please lock/delete this thread.
Redzap: I find the joke in poor taste. I think it makes all of us look bad. It mocks people that are actually having issues feeding their children and who don't buy luxury items (your children are going to bed hungry, ha,ha,ha). Plus its making a point that its not our responsibility to address gender inequity issues in the world, because its not our fault that these people were born women.
Now I am not going to spend a lot of time talking about/trying to bring more women into X-Wing as I generally feel there are other, bigger issues to deal with when it comes to gender inequality, but its a valid point of conversation and people shouldn't go out of their way to mock it.
Even though this is a satire thread, the cereal answer is Vassal. It's so cereal.

Some news on Imperial Huge Ships wouldn't go amiss, either!

Shhhh.
Don't let FFG know that all four threads were really a plot to derail the forum so much they would be forced to release info about the Imperial huge ship to get us on topic again.
Remember, is secret.
At the risk of sounding elitist,I have a simple question for you. Some but not a whole lot. You can't be competitive off of one Core set. Heck you can't make a standard 100 point squadron off of a core set. But in comparison to other games competitive builds are way cheaper than even a card game like Magic the Gathering where to get a competitive deck you will end up spending $200 each set release.
So lets take a look at buying requirement for say the top 3 competitive builds.
First Tie Swarm. Which is a no brainer. Quickest way to Tie Swarms, 3 Core Sets and a Tie Fighter Expansion gives you 3 plus all unique Tie Fighter pilots. Cost around $135 and you get 3 X-wings if you want to cross over into an easy 3X build.
Okay now Tie Phantoms. Well the Tie Phantom is only $15 and I only see one either Echo and Whisper plus entourage. So it depends on Entourage. So lets start from nothing so start with a Core set plus a phantom. So lets say either shuttle or Imperial Aces which is both $30 and 2 more small packs such as Tie Interceptor or Tie Defender.
So we got Core + (large pack) + Tie Phantom + 2 (small packs.) for only $115 for a competitive whisper/echo build.
Now for the elephant in the room. Han Solo, and the Falcon. Well you have the core for starters. Then add the Falcon for $30. Now all you need is an escort. You have one x-wing already so another x-wing will be around $15 for Wedge. Or lets throw in a couple of A-wings, or 3 Headhunter known as bandit pilots. I think we will go with the bandits because that is the higher expense. So here is the cost for Core + Falcon + 3 Z-95(or other small ship expansion.) is around $115.
However some people may point out that I am missing a card in the builds and that is C-3PO which can only be found in the Tantive IV which is $90. So if you want the Falcon + C-3PO that list will run around $205. However with the Title you can get a similar effect with C-3PO. However in many builds players use Engine Upgrade. So in short Super Falcon Builds are around $115 - $205.
But it isn't that bad when you compare it to something like Warmachines.
It seems to me that the X-wing community is extremely friendly all over. People are generally very willing to lend stuff and even donate. In my locale new people have been borrowing stuff from the store to make their squads and gradually they build their own. The only thing that has been subject to negotiation is who is getting C3PO from where. Epic play seems to be slowly catching on so more people are falling for the Tantive, so there will probably be enough 3POs to go around soon.
Please FFG do a newsrelease of the next wave so people can go back to complaining about how the releases are coming out too fast rather then stupid threads like this and the other couple related ones.
Having come from 40k I really don't get complaints about price, you can field a legal force for £30-40 for that price you get a codex and maybe an HQ choice.
When I upgraded my necron army from 1000 points to 2000 It cost me around £160, for that same amount I bought both an imperial force and rebel force.
Compared to other game systems x-wing is pretty cheap.
Hobojebus, there is always who will find it too expensive. Gaming budgets are different, and let's be honest, having 4 ships, while playable, is not where the fun in this game is. Having a nice collection brings a lot of flexibility on list building and keeps you entertained.
You can play with only 4 ships, but for how long ? Then you have to make an investment, and i know many people who just prefer to spread their gaming budget between different and specially, new games to try out, than collect one.
Well until wave four a tie swarm was a very competitive list you could make for under a £100, you could not do the same with 40k or warmahordes.
It's not a self contained board game and you know that going in, the fact the company cares enough to ensure quality is why your paying premium we know they've rejected whole batches because they were not good enough that's not a cheap thing to do and I doubt wizkidz would have the same issue having seen their heroclix range.
No one goes into a miniature game thinking it'll be cheap or that the first purchase will be all they ever need, but as things stand x-wing is far from the most expensive, it's fairly well balanced and the company actively listens to input and acts to solve issues it agrees is in need of work.
Having had my wallet abused by GW I know when I am and am not getting value for money.
I don't disagree that it isn't as expensive as other miniature games, i am just pointing out why some people may find it too expensive. That people normally won't touch a miniature game in their life for that reason.
About the swarm, it's Core + 6 Tie expansion pack = 90+40 = 130 €
Cheap, because we are GW's damned children, not everybody will think the same when you tell them it's only 8 models, and all of them are the same one, most of my RL friends don't want to make such investment, luckily i met a lot of people who play the game ![]()
And specially since that's what they will have to play forever if they don't want to invest anymore in the game.
Edited by DreadStarYeah but i know people who'll spend £80 on a night out, in the morning all that's left is a full bladder and some dried sick.
I'd rather have something i can use multiple times myself.
Its our job to promote a society where opportunity is as equal as possible. We do have work to do here as a society, but while we rush to address this, lets recall that two people given the same opportunity may apply themselves differently, or simply not have the same degree of skill or intellect or willingness to work at all. A growing segment of society simply expects it to be handed to them.
But you'll notice I said opportunity, not OUTCOME. No one owes anyone an outcome (ability to afford a particular game, a particular job/car/house, a college acceptance to a particular college or professional degree program , etc.) - those things are earned after you make the best of the opportunity you chose or ignored.
I am not denigrating anyone, just saying that what you end up with in life is largely dependent on your work ethic and application of whatever intellect and skill you have. Certainly a crappy economy and lack of a good educational upbringing (i.e. parents and teachers who transferred an understanding that an education is valuable) are barriers, but there are countless examples of people coming from nothing to achieve success (as THEY defined it). Many even without college, but a strong work ethic and a willing to sacrifice immediate gratification (hmmm..... miniatures gaming?) to build substantial and successful lives/businesses.
YES - I get that the thread was satire of the gender thread, but the idea that outcomes should be equalized - access to a particular ANYTHING - is dangerous. It denies the individual the experience of personal achievement which is far more valuable than anything society can give them.
Most people spend there money and free time on what THEY want. Its pretenious to think everyone of all backgrounds/aspects of people/society MUST play x-wing or are being left out.......they are simply doing things THEY care about and spending money on things THEY want.

Like expensive mods to car's for a few horsepower more, which is important because they have to compensate?

Lol if that is what they want to spend there money on more power to them, to each there own I like x-wing and War at sea and choose to play spend some of my free money on that. The point is everyone has there own interests and nothing is going to appeal to everyone we don't need to get out of sorts because 99% of women would rather be doing ANYTHING then play X-wing etc. lol.
Ok this is getting silly. I heartily approve.
Well, in the interest of being silly, but also staying on topic, you guys are welcome to give me your money.
Just to be clear, this is a joke. I fully expect this thread to be locked/deleted in the near future, so I wanted to have some fun with it.
