Imperial Assault moved from Board Games to Miniatures

By dpb1298, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Imperial Assault has been moved from the board games section to the miniatures section. Interesting, perhaps they were in trouble with the liscence or they are changing the feel/direction of the game.

That is interesting. I wouldn't mind at all if the skirmish game had its own forum in miniatures and the campaign had its own forum under board games.

So we can expect an even better quality of miniatures in future expansions? :D

I saw that myself yesterday. Did not make the post but yea, interesting move, i think ffg may finally have gotten permission or rights to do so. I think it was in board games fist whil they were still in talks with liscensing maybe. Still it is cool, maybe we will see a dusk tactics version of the star wars!

Yagyu, I think it's the other way around. A few years ago when FFG got the Star Wars license they were allowed to make miniature, board and roleplaying games. Now suddenly this game was announced (as a board game) and Chri Petersen says that the whole license issue is "tricky", and now they've moved Imperial Assault from the board game section to the miniature games section. So it seems they certainly don't have a carte blanche when it comes to board games.

In fact, I think adding the skirmish game is the whole reason they were allowed to produce this game in the first place.

Personally, I felt it was more of a Miniature Game to begin with. Mind you, I also feel that games like Level 7: Omega Protocol and Super Dungeon Explore are Miniature Games as well. Not exactly a Miniature Wargame (more Tactical Miniature Games), but still...it just doesn't feel like a boardgame to me. I reserve that classification for abstract games like Monopoly and The Game of LIFE.

thats right, sorry was a bit drunk when i posted did not remember right lol

So what does that make Descent?

Interesting. I'll be curious to see if it's due to license or game direction.

Firebroadside, I imagine Hasbro may have some sort of "Lockdown" on the Boardgame part. Sort of like with Star Wars Legos mini-figures, they can't sell them individually because then they'd be "action figures" so they sell them in "Building Sets" or "Keychains" to get around the "action figure" part.

Yagu, I could only wish they'd make a version like Dust Tactics.

Hum...not surprised by this...at least not as much as I was that it was in the board game section to begin with. This is why the first thing I asked was whether or not the licensing arrangement between Lucasfilm and FFG had changed to include Board Games along with miniatures, card games and RPGs. Guess we have our answer now. Still, strange that it took this long to happen. Maybe FFG took a chance and Hasbro's/Disney's legal team finally took notice. Odd thing is that this game really is no different than Descent or any of FFGs other miniatures based board games (like Mansions of Madness) and those ones are not in the miniatures category. Either way, so long as the game is released, I don't care what category it is classified under.
