R2-F2 is he any good?

By benbaxter, in X-Wing

Just to be silly, what about Etahn w/ R2-F2, Sensor Jammer, Push the Limit, and Experimental Interface?

He can get R2-F2 for free. He can PtL and get Focus and Evade. He uses EI to force a hit into a miss. Sure, it's a lot of points, but you can do it!

That's also a lot of stress to try to get rid of.

He's solid. The biggest knock on him is that he takes your ship's action. That requires Biggs to get his Focus tokens from his friends Garven and Kyle. Plus, he adds points to a ship that is probably going to die quickly.

I'm sure we'll see some attempts to use him again with Experimental Interface.

I am not a math wiz, but with the focus fire from 3-4 ties, wouldn't 4 extra green dice be more beneficial than one focus token?

Eventually, it will be more beneficial than a single focus token.

However, that implies that Biggs will last that long, and that the benefit is worth the price and slot.

Your first Green Die has a 3/8 chance of Blank, 2/8 of Eye, and 3/8 of Squiggle.

Each subsequent Green Die modifies each of these by the same spread.

(9 BB, 6 BE, 9 BS, 6 EB, 4 EE, 6 ES, 9SB, 6 EE, 9 SS), for a total of (9 BB, 12 BE, 4 EE, 18 BS, 12 ES, 9 SS) out of 64.

Of those, 3/8 result in one additional evade, while 1/16 result in 2.

Going with the additional green die, on the other hand, merely results in 3/8 for one additional evade.

Lesser odds on a single attack, if you blindly spend your focus token on the first attack.

However, as you weight in preference, the odds of someone spending the focus token to dodge 2 damage increase, while the odds of the 3rd green die being important decrease (as your opponent will rarely roll 3 damage, your capability of rolling 3 evades is less important).

A math-winger did his magic a while back. Against a standard TIE swarm, assuming only one focus token, Biggs is expected to die before the benefit of the extra dice outweighs the benefit of the focus tokens.
