Even the Odds

By LiveFreeorDustTrying, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest - Rules Questions

Hello All!

Had a couple games last night and this came up during a battle.

My Stingwing Swarm has the Ion Rifle attachment and exhausts during the ranged combat round dealing 6 damage (ouch!). The opposing player then exhausted one of thier ranged units dealing damage to one of my units. Play goes back to me, then I play the "Even the Odds" card after that to move the attachment from the Stingwing Swarm to a Vior'La Marksman before that unit was exhuasted....

Is this legal?

Yes (well acording to my interpretation of the rules) it is.

see page 22 of the rules refernce guide:

there is an action window between "player without initiative makes a ranged attack" and "player with initiative makes another ranged attack."

so it would go:

stingwing attacks

ACTION WINDOW

oponent attacks with ranged unit

ACTION WINDOW- you play "even the odds"

you may attack with the viorla marksman with ion rifle equiped.

Also try attaching a "gun drones" to a unit with "ranged": so you can use it's area effect in the ranged section of the combat phase: 2 dam on every enemy unit before theycan do anything!

I thought so, but I wasn't so sure. It sure did give my opponent the major downers when I did that.

As for the AoE...Powerful effect indeed. I have thought about that one more than once.

Doesn't the Ion Rifle originally attaced to the Stingwing remain exhausted after his attack? Or do attachments not exhaust with the attacking creature?

Attachments don't exhaust with the unit. Even if they did, being exhausted doesn't prevent it giving its attack bonus, as nothing on Ion Rifle suggests it needs to be ready for the static bonus to apply.

Wow.

Attachments just became more interesting and lethal.

(I was under the impression that once they were utilized, they couldn't be re-attached to another unit and utilized again in the same combat round...)

Flash Gitz with Rokkit Launch a is totally a thing.

Once attached, an attachment stays where it is until an effect specifically moves it, or the card it is attached to leaves play. In the example being used here, a particular card effect is being used to move the attachment from one character to another. The attachment in question continues to work on its "new host" because, like all cards with continuous effects, the state of the card (exhausted or ready) does not dictate whether or not the effect is "turned on."

I'd say the attachment itself didn't become any more interesting or lethal. The in-game tactics utilizing the "move an attachment" effect made the scenario more interesting and lethal.

Can a ranged unit with gun drones attached use AoE? That just seems wrong somehow

Sure, A Ranged unit still makes an attack during the ranged skirmish. AoE replaces the attack with the damage effect. Nothing incompatible there.

Yeah suppose so.

My Khymera's don't like this at all! Need to include anothe copy of Twisted Labratory haha

There are some very powerful Combos out there such as that one.

Chaos has a combo that can win you a game:

- Zarathur

- Zarathur's Flamer + Mark of Chaos

Deploy the units, Combat Phase Starts, Action Window: Sacrifice the Flamer to make 2+1 damage to a unit, then make 1+1 damage to all the rest of the units. If you don't win a fight after this one, you must be very unlucky =P
