OT: Just got my D&D Attack Wing

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

Looks like it isn't available in Europe anyway ...

I always wanted ground attack units in x-wing...

Get Imperial Assault, it's as close as you'll get.. with that out they dont need to incorporate a ground aspect, which is fine by me. I detest the thought of adding ground troops and vehicles to a space combat game.

I can't wait for the Ewok Gliders!

I had an idea for Ewok Gliders. They only cost one squad point but they choke to death after 2 turns. You can get an extra turn with them if you equip Stolen Stormtrooper Helmet.

This actually looks like it will be VERY different in play from STAW or X-Wing. You have separate dials for aerial and ground movement. Armor does not automatically get reduced when hit, so if you have 2 armor it lasts round to round.

Spells and breath weapons take time to recharge and have straight line aiming and hit >1 opponent if they are under the line.

All in all and I hate to say this, it's looking pretty cool.

And I think one of the best additions is that it has friendly fire.

It does indeed have "friendly" fire.

It also has friendly Acid, Lightning, Poison . . .

I'm not buying into this game big time, but aerial dragon combat with melee/breath/spells is worth $35 to try out.

This, and its gonna be like 30 after a coupon at the flgs, then if it sucks i got a couple dragon figs i can repaint if needed for other projects

It appears the factions may be done on the traditional "Alignment" lines. Not sure until mine gets here.

This would make sense.

From skimming the rules it looks like you can "gather forces" of any alignment together. Also, you can field the same unique at a table as long as they are on different "legions" (meaning opposed), and only one per side. This, I do not like. Much of the rest of the game I do like.

Isn't that how uniques are handled in this game as well?

ha, there will be no alignment mixing at my table :-)

How about lawful evil and chaotic evil together, would that be allowed?

I don't think they use the nine alignment system, just good-neutral-evil.

I picked up a copy tonight, just for the fact that it WAS dragons on flight stands. There are a few glaring differences between X-wing and even Attack Wing and this. For starters, everyone has Fel's Wraiths special ability - you don't remove models from the board until the End phase. Also, having both air and ground units means that you can (as a dragon) move between them. Big change is that you declare an attack target and type BEFORE you check range, if you miss, you miss - phase passes to next attacker. Over all I like the idea and the ground units weren't so bad as to be a distraction

Looking forward to playing this sometime soon as it looks different enough from the standard flight path rules to keep things interesting

In the meantime as we all know the usual pre-paints often leave a lot to be desired and while these weren't actually that bad I decided to give them a quick tickle over, nothing major, wouldn't even call them re-paints as I simply worked with the original colours and highlighted the details, literally about half hour per dragon and now we have something a little more blingy to hit the table top with :)

Looking forward to wave 1 being released in the UK, guess I better get a few more KR cases!
