OT: Just got my D&D Attack Wing

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

I know I just used two swear words.

X-Wing is my favorite game, but that doesn't mean that I don't like Star Trek or more to the point DRAGONS.

My emotions on this game went from very excited to more skeptical as I saw the GEN CON videos posted on this game.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I have to say it looks very promising. The sculpts on the dragons is actually really really good. (for their size and material) the paint job isn't up to X-wing standards, but it is easier to paint man-made objects like ships than it is to paint more natural objects like Dragons.

I wasn't as impressed with the non-dragon models.

That and it's Wizkids, so quality expectations should go down.

Dragons as a fourth faction in X-Wing?

If you can deal with the fact that the game will be a broken mess at some point quite soon, then the game doesn't look half bad. Model quality is up from AW.

Not sure I like all the ground units etc, but as a free for all rider and dragon game it would be a blast.

Maybe this stuff looks cool on a proper table.

Hmm, so it's made by Wizkids, and even worse, it's a Wizkids Attack Wing game. I think I'll stick with just X-wing and the LCG.

Beats Yuuzan Vong...

Ewoks are supposedly the 4th faction.

Ewoks are supposedly the 4th faction.

This is going to be X-wings version of 'that's what she said' - Still better than Yuuzan vong.

I played it at Gen con, it's very different so I can't say how good or bad it will be. I had fun and the recharge for long range attacks pushes you into close tooth and tail fighting. The ground troops look disappointing but if they end up kinda like Mobile asteroids it could be cool.

I haven't bothered to read the rules I just know that 30 min game, as xwing has my soul.

Yub yub, commander.

Somehow I like the idea of having ground forces...

... I could refuse playing with dragons ... this would be cool ...

do they have Vader?

Pics or it didn't happen.

There is a special hell if that is the case. The one reserved for child molesters and those who talk during the theater.

I always wanted ground attack units in x-wing...

I can't wait for the Ewok Gliders!

The rules are VERY different from X=Wing or STAW. I like the idea of ground units, but as cool as the dragons were the ground units just weren't very exciting. Especially the regiment units, the sun elves and hobgoblins. I mean is there a more vanilla villain in D&D that Hobgoblins. But after reading the rules, I think the Sun Elf Wizard and Wraiths might be worth picking up.

What the game does do is show how the flight path system can be applied to situations besides ships flying around. I am excited to see how it goes.

It's really more like "still a better love story than Twilight" or "still a better ending than Mass Effect 3" than anything else.

I ordered a copy. I like the rules from what I read online. Models seem OK. (probably replace with some of my own dragons). Ground troops are a no for me. I like the XP campaign ideas and I'll almost certainly have riders on mine just for aesthetics.

I can see the equivalent there, but that's what she said has so many applications...

Kobolds. I am pretty sure low level adventurers across the globe have comitted genocide a hundred times over.

Recipe for chunky salsa:

1. Take a small room

2. Add about 20 to 30 Kobolds

3. Add one lvl 5 fighter

It will be interesting to see how the D&D wing develops. AW had to have WK come in and set some hard limits on their tournament scene because overloaded dreadnoughts were (unsurprisingly) breaking the game.

Mini quality is crap. I was surprised that for a quarter of a hundred dollars you get six poorly painted and poorly casted dudes with swords.

While i think we are spoiled by X-wing, i'll admit that the star trek armada models range from "not bad, but inferior to x-wing" to "what gashapon machine did they get this thing out of?"
