First go building a squad

By Halude, in X-Wing

Hi All,

This is my first time building a squad for myself not an internet list, i have only just started playing the game so please critique

The Idea here is to be aggressive and try and get angles on my targets

S.Fel - PTL - Stealth

Turr - Veteran instincts

Royal tie guard - Veteran instincts

Howlrunner

my only problem looking at this list is that Howlrunner my struggle keeping up and may not be able to use his ability

Im open to suggestions please advise,

Cheers

Halude

I'd drop the stealth on Fel and put Push the Limit on the Royal Guard Interceptor. A interceptor really lives and dies, quite literally on the ability to arc dodge, and you really need PtL to do that.

Howlrunner is going to have some issues staying with the interceptors, but with 3 attack dice you don't need her as much as you do with a Tie Fighter.

So either keep her and use her when you can. Or else find a different use for those points.

BTW, Howlrunner is a girl. :)

I agree with Vanor. I'd drop howlie, upgrade to push the limit on the royal guard and go for backstabber or dark curse to fill the points. Otherwise, not a bad first list.

One point to make is interceptor list can be quite unforgiving. You may get frustrated at first as you'll likely get whooped a few times whilst you crack handling them. Stick with it though as once you get the hang of flying then it'll be a reasonably solid list. As a new player of stick to just a couple of ship types in your squad (as you have done) and master flying them before moving onto any new ships

If you want 4 ships I'd take Dark Curse and use the points elsewhere. Howlrunner likely will not to keep up with the interceptors so you need a ship with less situational requiements (Dark Curse applies to all defense which is guaranteed to happen).

Personally, I put stealth on all my interceptors. It is a worthy investment in my experience and helps avoid the one attack flame out, which is a bummer. If you are willing to try 3 ships then consider stealth and royal guard tie to add some hull or shield to the interceptors. PTL is good too, but you need firepower to overcome a ship with a 360 firing arc. So predator, opportunist and outmaneuver are also good to try - though the later two are situational.

Your Soontir and Turr builds are good as is unless you want to try the hull or shield add, but Soontir doesn't need that in my experience - better to buff up the lower PS interceptors instead.

Good luck!

Above suggestions are all very sound.

I could see dropping Howl for a Scimitar with a Seismic Charge.

I'll second the suggestion to put PtL on the Royal and use one of the 16 point TIE Fighters instead of Howlrunner. Arguments can be made about the Stealth Device on Fel but he is probably the ship that upgrade does the most good for.

Thank you for all your comments i ran a 3 interceptors last night

Soontir Fel
Royal Guard TIE, Push the Limit, Targeting Computer, Shield Upgrade
Turr Phennir
Veteran Instincts, Hull Upgrade
Carnor Jax
Push the Limit, Royal Guard TIE, Targeting Computer, Shield Upgrade

due to my lack of knowledge i opted to go for a internet build to get used to the interceptors, got my ass handed to me first game ive played interceptors but 2nd game i was well a head getting use to ptl i took out my opponent's b-wing and 2 a-wings without loosing a ship, altho im not sure if he was cheating with one of his awings

Is there a limit to how many stress tokens you can have on 1 ship?

as he had about 6 stress on his ship and still using ptl on one of his A-wings

There is no actual limit to how many Stress tokens a ship can have. It is just that most ships can not perform actions with any Stress tokens and have bad things happen if they try Red maneuvers. As Rividius mentions there is an A-Wing pilot who CAN perform actions even when Stressed but he still runs into problems when performing red (K-turns only on an A-Wing) maneuvers.
