Insight Token Question

By Charmy, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey all,

So quick question that arose today. Here is the situation:

The party's prophet gave the mage the insight token during the Hero turn. On the Overlord turn, the Overlord (me) Dark Charmed the mage away from the party and knocked him out.

On the next hero turn, the heroes are arguing that the mage should be able to discard the insight token on his turn in order to regain 1 heart, rather than having to be revived by another hero or stand up on his own.

Is this the case? I'm already aware of the ruling that Soothing Insights cannot give the Insight token to a knocked out hero because they're not on the map. This ruling however does not cover the case wherein a hero wants to discard an insight token that is already on his sheet.

Is there any clarification on this. In the rules about the Apothecary Elixir tokens it explicitly states that Elixirs cannot be discarded by knocked-out heroes. Sadly, there is no such line for Insight tokens in the Trollfens rulebook.

"Insight" into this matter would be appreciated ;-)

He cannot discard the insight token. Knocked-out heroes can't do anything except stand up, or use abilities that are explicitly triggered "while you are knocked out" (like Orkell's heroic feat, for example.) For example, a knocked out hero holding a health potion cannot use an action to drink that potion and heal all wounds. Ispher does not automatically stand up with 1 health at the start of his turn, either- he's knocked out, so his ability isn't active.

Cool. Thanks Zaltyre. Looks like my victory was complete and I didn't pull a fast one on the heroes :)

Is there any ruling I can cite which states that the heroes can't do anything except stand up? I've looked through the rule books and FAQs, and it does say that heroes can't do any other action except stand up. They also can't use skills or abilities.

However, what does "discarding the insight token" fall under? It isn't really this hero's skill or ability.. its kinda in a nebulous gray zone. I may just have to get them to live with it, but an iron clad ruling would always be preferable!

Discarding the insight token to recover a wound is the knocked out hero using the prophet's "Soothing Insight" skill, so it falls under the skills/abilities restriction (again, unless it's a skill or ability that is specifically for use when knocked out.)

Also, note that a heroes skills/abilities are generally inactive while they are knocked out, even for the purposes of use by other heroes- this is explicitly stated in the case of the bard skills (which almost all give a space requirement.) However, take for example Leoric's hero ability- since he's not on the map, "within 3 spaces" of him is no where, and it does nothing. Any skill or ability that relies on map location doesn't work for knocked out heroes, because they aren't anywhere (unless it's an ability that lets the knocked out hero recover damage, as stated in the rules.)
