FFG if you need an idea for a new turret check this out.

By Black Knight Leader, in X-Wing

For refrence look at the Y-Wing pictures in the link in the "OT ILM Modles" topic.

In all the years Star Wars as well as the EU has existed not one writter has noticed that BTL-A4 Y-Wings in ANH and ROTJ had a turret weapon that looks almost like a single barrel medium anti-tank gun.

Since no lore has ever been written for it you have a major opportunity to come up with new lore for the BTL-A4.

The BTL-B and BTL-S3B are pure offensive packaged Y-Wing theis new guy for now we will call "BTL-A4L" coulds/should be the next pure offensive Y-Wing that is also a singel seater.

This gun could be anything, LASER cannon, LASER beam cannon, Plasma projector, atomic partical beam cannon, an automatic Gauss rifle that fires missiles.meson hyper penetrator anti-anything gun.

Making up the rules for said gun is up to you FFG.

Here is some inspirationall words for you if you do chose to add to the BTL-A4 lore and this turret no one has ever noticed that was tasked with writting lore for SW ships.

I would love to see a gun that rolls a different number of dice depending on whether the defender has shield tokens or not. 0 or 1 dice when the defender has no shield tokens vs 4 dice when they have shield tokens could be an interesting turret weapon. Great power against tanky-er ships, but without the finishing power.

Ooh. Or a turret does exactly one critical damage when it hits (cancelling rolls like the ion cannons do).

I have no idea what this is, though.

I came up with another Ion turret idea, I know not very origional and not really needed. so here it is

Advanced Ion Turret

Fire power 2 range 1-3 point cost 6.

Change all crits to hits. Those dice cannot be modified any further.

For each uncanceled hit apply 1 ion token to the defender.

So what is it, well it is a slightly more expensive ion turret that has range 3. It can give up to 2 Ion tokens in a single attack without upgrades or abilities but is easier to dodge than a normal Ion Turret.

Doesn't look like any Anti-Tank Gun I've ever seen. Looks like a custom construct for the cockpit close ups. Most model makers would avoid using something easily recognisable if it's likely to been seen close up or for any length of time. You don't want an audience watching a shot and saying "that's not an Ion cannon, it's the gun off a Tiger Tank!".

Thank you for comming up with rules for a new turret weapon. I hope it never becomes a Ion Cannon only time will tell.

From some angles it reminds me of the anti weapon mounted to hummers in the North American military. I did mean to write gun I meant weapon.

We'll just have to wait for S&V to see what they call it, the BTL-A4 Y-Wing is a Title card in it :)

Something akin to this?

The HMMWV with TOW Anti-Tank Missile?

Edit: Double post. Don't you just hate it when it does that?

This is the same concept as at Plasma Torpedo...

been there, done that:

It looks like a single turbolaser, hardpoint upgrade.

YES THANK YOU!

If it ends up being a turbolaser ill cry. Hard enough dealing with Reb shuttles that have turbos...

Turbolasers are wayyyyy bigger!

Turbolasers are wayyyyy bigger!

TIE Crawler has a light version around the size of the turret we see on this Y-Wing.

Way too small.

The barrel on that y-wing isn't any bigger than the standard ion turret barrel.

That doesn't mean that a single turbo laser turret might not be a cool idea. Maybe only 3 attack dice range 2-3. Fighter weaponry in Star Wars just isn't supposed to be as powerful as Capital ships.

I can tell you all, definitively, what that is: It's a piece of round plastic with a carefully cut receiver and mounting to make it look like a cool shooty thing! It's just a generic blaster/laser/gun. You'll probably find the model makers took a prototype to George Lucas and he said "why don't we put a gun turret thingy on the roof of the cockpit? That'd be cool."

I don't think it's meant to be anything specific, so it can become whatever we need it to be for gaming purposes.

That's an S3, look at pictures of them compared to A4s, as well as armament. S3 had 1 IC, A4 had 2. Also you can see the back seat in that model.

EDIT: not a very good picture, but:

Unless you're firefly/serenity... i cant see the 'reavered up' serenity and *not* see the german 37mm wwii flak gun bolted to the top... it's hard to miss the MP40s carried by badgers guards.

But them i'm a wwii re-enactor, i tend to spot WWII stuff straight away.

Sod that, I want a, "Mass Driver" cannon/turret upgrade that bypasses shields, costs a ton of points in comparison to others, and can't crit.

Something that knocked out shields until the next activation phase but otherwise did no damage could be interesting.

As in you wouldnt lose your shields permanently, if you had two left, were hit with it, you['d have two again next turn but anything hitting you between there and then would go to the hull.

It cant be a S3 because on the blu-ray set this picture is one of many from diffrent angles. It comes with a video as well. This Y-Wing and others with this turret were made for ANH.

Even then none of the writters for the tech books are aware of this turret. In the blue prints Reb eddition they show all the turrets except 2. The other not shown is a double barrel blaster type.

The double barrel turret was the type i remember from the kenner Y wing toy i had as a kid, hence i tend to think of them as 'standard' for Y wings.

That single barreled cannon could work fine as a small scale turbolaser. Remember, turbolasers has been used on everything from fighters to moon sized space stations. The term is truly ubiquitus and do not seem to reference to size, but rather power/strength of the weapon.

Again, i've always seen 'turbo lasers' as capital ship and above weapons for using against similar size targets.

Hence the line in the film 'they're evading our turbo lasers' and the point that the death stars anti capital ship weapons (which are huge) struggle to hit fighters evading

(just like in the game when you try and hit an evading TIE at range 5!)
