IA & X-Wing/ Cross-Over Campaigns.

By Madmartigan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Since FFG is now producing a Star Wars tactical skirmish/light RPG game in Imperial Assault, and 2 Star Wars tactical space battle miniatures games in X-Wing and Armada, has anyone entertained the idea of a custom campaign utilizing both Imperial Assault for ground based encounters, and either X-Wing or Armada for space encounters and travel between planets?

Seems to me it would be pretty epic; weaving occasional space battles with X-Wing, for instance, into a Descent-like campaign in Imperial Assault.

Thoughts?

Combining X-wing or Armada with IA sounds like an awesome idea. Think Episode 6 style where the IA/ground forces are attempting to disable shields, and the success or failure of this impacts the battles going on in space on the X-wing board. You could even combine the to into a boarding-party scenario where certain characters like Han or Boba Fett disembark so they engage in both the space battle and small-arms combat. The possibilities are endless.

The idea i am working on is like this, you star off with one of the games, let say for this campaign you start x-wing dog fighting. So lets say for story sake the empire has sent scouts to tatooine and located rebel fighters, the rebels send their squad to stop the scout ships before they can escape and bring the empire down on the tatooine base. So you run a custom X-wing 1 hour mission.

At the end of the x-wing mission, the winner recieves extra build points for the next part.

Now we enter Armade where despite the rebels efforts win or lose the signal was sent and the imperial fleet as arrived. The rebel base however has its own fleet and they meet above tatooine for a huge battle. The Winner of the last mission got extra points so lets say it was empire and now they got an extra squad or a more upgraded star destroyer. The battle takes place over another hour or 2. Depending on how long an average armada game takes.

At the end the winnder revies build points or XP for IA.

Now lets say the rebels overcame the empire this time. They get maybe an extra xp for the ground skirmish or extra build points (not sure how it works yet for skirmish).

Now we launch a tatooine skirmish mission, either custom or from the book. If the rebels win they have defeated the empire and escaped tatooine to move to a new base and gain either extra build points or 1 campaign win for the overall campaign.

The empire has lost but clearly is not out.

So act 1 is finished, we now move to act 2 where we rinse and repeat only on a different planet. Maybe yavin this time. There is a lot of custom house ruling to be done but the idea is simple, straight forward and i think will be very fun! When it all comes out I may make some custom campaign outlines after some playtesting and post them here for you guys. Maybe ill even photoshop some custom campaign mission cards or forms to keep track of wins and such.

Sounds like Galactic Conquest in Battlefront 2 :D

Yup :D and basicly you fight for each planet. Maybe in back and forth order over who chooses which planet to attack, and if its an extended campaign you can attack already occupied planets but the opponent would have a bonus on that planet since they already won a battle there.
