Going to worlds?

By Da_ghetto_gamer, in UFS General Discussion

So apparently my playgroup is torn about going to worlds with only a few people really wanting to go or being able to if they dont go i still want to really bad and so does one of my friends.....

is anyone traveling through the VA area or anywhere around it on there way to worlds and can pick up at least one if not 2 other people?

we are pretty cool to hang out with but we understand if people wouldnt want 2 give us rides i mean its strangers even if we do play the same game and all

If I were going through VA and had room I would pick you up, but alas I am not. The weird thing about it is that it really isn't like a strangers thing when it comes to the ufs community.

the ufs community where i come from is like 5 people... so... no one is a stranger! =P

I dunno how old y'all are, but if possible why not rent a car? Or even take the Greyhound?

Well, seeing as how Nationals is...pretty much out of the question (unless I get omega lucky and get a heaping paycheck), I think Worlds is an order.

Last year, not only did I have the money to go to worlds, but I received a rather mysterious (and fortunate) invite to room with Jihan Crichlow (AKA Goo). As most people know, if you spend time with Goo, you're gonna do well with a really crazy deck.

But unfortunately I had to turn him down, 'cuz if I went to Worlds last year, I'd have no munniez upon my return, and my job at the time literally scheduled me a day a week T_T

But this year ought be different. Before college starts, we're considering road trippin' it all the way up to GenCon if funds see fit. Sadly I don't have a broken deck like my Bitter Rivals **Mai** to play with, but by then I'll have come up with something 1337.

yeah true i do feel like that the people in the ufs community are closer then any other card game ive ever played

but as for the renting a car im only 20 and ill be 21 when worlds is being held and i believe you have to be 25 to rent a car i think and i thought about taking the greyhound but that leaves me trying to find ways from the bus station and back to the bus station when the 4 days is up......and then trying to find ways to get back to the hotel and to go to places to eat.....idk it just seems like a mess to me

Im trying to talk my friends into going again this year we all went in 07 and had the best time ever...if only i woulda side boarded out my nagases sprials against a deck running no attacks i woulda won my last game and been put into top 16.....sigh.......i wanna redeem myself

Sure you have to be 25. Legally.

Just get somebody to get a rental car for you. Assuming you aren't Asian or female, you ought to be just fine.

I've actually never met Goo, which was why I was so surprised to get this random message from him. UFS community be tight yo, but holy snap, there are some extremely bad eggs in it, unfortunately, whom troll our very forums =/ T_T

last time i checked i wasnt either of those things so i should be good i could always get my mom to do it i think she would do anything for me lol

i just really hope i get to go again this year i miss all the people ive met along the way

Meeting Scuba and MegaGeese was the first I've ever met somebody from these boards, and I traveled within state =/

I think I need to convince people to do what was done at one of the worlds (I wanna say 07) where people either play with their favorite characters, or with their favorite symbol.

Either way, I'm at a disadvantage...

i usually do play my favorite symbols (air/evil) lucky me huh?

but yeah thats the same worlds i went to and the first time other then an FoP that i meet anyone who didnt leave within 10 miles of my store that played so it was pretty good times

I would love to go to worlds and have some really hard brawls. Sadly I dont know when or where it is and also I doubt i could go as I will be having alot on my plate in a few weeks.

My favourite symbols are the ones that win. My favourite character is the one that wins, so you've got one person doing what you wish to happen, people playing their favorite symbols/characters.

The only problem with that is that characters and symbols "that win" are subject to change. Generally, favorites are pre-determined, or fixed so they never change.

oi, look up Gencon on the internets.

Indianapolis sometime in mid 20s of August. Teams probably Friday, Singles probably Saturday (with maybe last rounds of Singles on Sunday?).

Convention cost is like 70 dollars or so... Hotels are crazy to find, so you'll have to slum it (convention center is 24 hours IIRC... just ask dut. He stayed up all night a few days last year like a PRO!), until you can find some crash space, which will probably be likely, for a small donation to those you're bumming off of.

SO ALL PLEASE GET TO THE GENCON CHOPPA! NOAH!

What I meant by my statement is that just cause I am a Yun-seong fan boy, it doesn't mean I will only play yun-seong. If evil Ibuki is the deck to beat, you bet i will most likely be playing it, if it's air olexa, order gill, evil akuma, evil zi mei, I don't really care what I play as long as it wins, and I don't let my emotions or favouritism select what I play, I let my logic determine what I play. I tend to avoid symbols like earth and life not because I don't like em but because under my understanding and views of the game, I don't think they have the necessary tools to win competively. My freind AwesomeDhalsim ussually doesn't have a problem with broken cards because he just plays them instead, I am trying to follow his example.

Quoted for truth. I am not allowed to repeat where and how I didn't sleep the night before Worlds. ummm, I also had a bit of wine and beer.

To sum it up though, I rented a hotel that was a bit far away from the con... And I didn't go to it once, so I paid for a room I never even arrived at. Yeah, that is how much I enjoyed my time in Indianapolis ^^
