Highest Survivability builds

By Lardvark, in X-Wing

Hey all, I was toying around with the following team:

http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/142973/ha-ha-ha-ha-stayin-alive-stayin-alive

99 points

Biggs Darklighter (31)
X-Wing (25), R5-P9 (3), Stealth Device (3)

Luke Skywalker (37)
X-Wing (28), R2-D2 (4), Draw Their Fire (1), Shield Upgrade (4)

Kyle Katarn (31)
HWK-290 (21), Ion Cannon Turret (5), Jan Ors (2), Moldy Crow (3)

I like the Luke+Biggs core with their upgrades as is, and Kyle can give Biggs an evade every turn because of Jan. I feel like this squad will be really hard to hit, so long as I fly them pretty close. I'm open to changing Kyle to another ship, but I like the Ion Cannon turret, as an option against Phantoms.

Also, in a related note, I had a question about Shield Upgrade and R2-D2:

Shield_Upgrade.png R2-d2.png

Shield Upgrade says to increase your shield value by 1. R2-D2 says I can restore shields up to my shield value. So, essentially, Luke's shield value would be 3 and I can use R2-D2 to restore my shields up to 3. Is this correct?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a quick search on the forum but couldn't really find an answer.

Thanks for viewing and looking forward to hearing your feedback.

R2-D2 and Shield Upgrade works like you think it does.

R2D2 or R5P9 and a shield upgrade is a good combo. They stack.

I would not put any extras on Biggs since a good opponent will take him out in the 1st round.

Stealth device seems to work best on ships with 3 defense dice in my opinion - it is certainly better than a shield or hull upgrade in those cases since it usually lasts longer. I've had interceptors and A's last nearly to the end untouched with stealth. So maybe reconsider that for points elsewhere.

Would also suggest you consider switching Biggs with Garven who can pass a focus as needed. Or Dutch who can grant a target lock to Luke, or Horton who also has great offense.

R5P9 on Luke could be better since the Y will likely be doing easy greens (thus a better fit for R2) and Luke more aggressive - so passing a focus via Kyle and/or Garven will get a shield back regardless. Elusiveness is also good for your Hawk since they don't get a droid but can lose the stress with a green move each round.

Good luck!
