That Ezra is an expy of Disney's Aladdin?
Watch the pilot again, look for "street rat" and "Hey a kids gotta eat"... Not to mention his general appearance.
Also, how dark was ep 4??

Yeah, Rebels is noticeably "Disney-ified" from the episodes I've seen so far. The most recent episode I saw ("Fight or Flight") was disappointing in comparison to the prior episodes. Very kid-oriented, the Stormtroopers were on Jar Jr Binks level. Although, I'm still impressed with the acting, graphics and entertainment value for what it's worth!
On another note, has anyone felt a disturbance in the force with the name they chose for the main character? Ezra is a pretty common and profound Hebrew name, and I don't recall Star Wars ever using real world religious names for their characters such as Abraham, Jesus, Christian or Mohammed. I feel like the religious context of his name, be it intentional or unintentional, makes it feel even less like Star Wars and more like some kind of calculated Disney concoction.
I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I think he does have some Aladdin-flavored roots and intro but his arc isn't remotely similar so I'm fine with it. I have tried a few times and couldn't ever really get into clone wars, but this is entertaining. Zeb is also the only screen character that my 15-month old will consistently choose to pay attention to, so I might be a little biased.
Sabine is awesome as she is a pink mandalorian role model for my daughter :-) Jason Isaacs is fantastic, period. I love the Kanan / Hera dynamic and ep 4 really was quite dark.
Loving the series so far.

Its probably intentional. Vader has Hebrew letters on his life support. Lots of Christian elements in SW. Some Baltic Slavic as well but the Abrahamism is strong in this one.
You can find the name "Endor" or a word that would be pronounced like "Jedi" in Abrahamic text that was written in Greek and translated to English..

Actually Luke and Ben are pretty common Jewish names.
Star Wars does draw on religious ideals. The Force from EP IV-VI is pretty much Zen Buddhism + psychic powers.
He really only comes off as Aladdin in the Spark of Rebellion "movie." After that he seems to be his own character.
I wouldn't call it Disney-fied. Disney isn't trying to make Star Wars into Disney. It's letting Lucasfilm do it's thing and reaping the profits. Like they do with Marvel.
The show is fantastic and I hope it doesn't get canned because of low ratings numbers.
I loved The Clone Wars but it was never funny. Rebels actually makes me laugh which is cool. Chopper is the best.

Already picked up for 2nd season.
Chopper is awesome.
Luke - one of the Gospel writers. Kind of a core Christian name
Leia - Greek spelling of Hebrew Leah
Ben - shortening of Hebrew Benjamin
Endor - witch in the Old Testament (which is even crazier since I believe in one of the Ewok movies there was a witch as well - on Endor)
Porkins - tasty Gentile treat ![]()

It is very kidish. Not even pre-teen level, but 6-10 year old level.
The Stormtroopers make the ones in ANH seem elite. They couldn't hit the sky with their blasters. It kind of takes away from there being any sense of peril for the heroes.

The Stormies are very, very Derpy, but I did find the last episode quite dark.
I know this is a movie as well but...

Did any one see the docudrama Black Hawk Down? The actor Tom Sizemore (McKnight) is simply standing around while fire is coming from all sides.
The difference is kinda of reversed thought. McKinght is the trained one wearing body armor and the Somali's firing are untrained. In Star Wars and Rebels it's turned around. The Storm Troopers are training wearing body armor and can't seem to defend themselves or hit anything. Heck in the last Star Wars - RotJ there is a scene where the body armor ladened imperial troopers armed with blasters are on the run from a band of fur balls throwing rocks.
Edited by Ken at SunriseIt is Disneyfied.... nuff said.. but it is what I expected Disney to do to it... hope the new movies are not that way. Seems like Disney is more interested in selling kids toys...
It's a kid's cartoon show. It's not aimed at adults. It's no more disneyfied than TCW was.
TCW took a couple seasons to really take off, and it's early stuff was very bleh. It's later stuff got pretty dark and somewhat demented at times. However Rebels has already dealt with some pretty weighty topics (genocide, slavery, death, etc). I have hope that Rebels will mature a bit more and be as good as the late TCW stuff.
Also rebels has cameo'ed vehicles from the old droids series. That Imperial prisoner tank anyone?

You dont see Stormys running from Ewoks. Ewoks are heavily underestimated in universe and out universe. There cutting weapons are volcanic rock. Obsidian is 6 times sharper than surgical steel, heck flint knives knives can be sharper than the steel counter parts, and etherway if its Obsidian or flint if it fragments in a target they are still as good as dead even if they escape.

I know right! Check out this blast from the past! It came out in 1980 (even before the Droids show)!
Here's a link to a site that talks about the toy - it even had a whole story around it!

Bare in mind the civilians were also high on drugs which was why they were fearless even when getting gunned down.

This is the sort of thing that makes me love it.
The ratings do concern me a little. I don't have cable, so I have an iTunes Season Pass for it. I hope that counts.

I just find it funny you're trying to defend the primitives that beat the most elite military force in Star Wars BKL ![]()
Edit: Yes Storm Troopers are bad shots but what can the best marksman do when he is confronted with plot armor.

Ratings don't matter for kid's shows. The only thing that determines if kid's shows stay on the air is merchandise sales. Thats why it's so easy to see these shows online, and on other channels. The ads don't drive the show, the toy sales do.
I'd say 10/31/14 should be a good indicator for us common folk. Count the number of Ezras, stormtroopers, inquisitors, and other Rebel characters. For a show that just hit the airwaves this month, if you see a lot of costumes, things may be looking good.
now THAT is an epic multi Matador turn. (1 hard, barrel back).
Yeah, luke and ben are super christian/jewish names, sorry.
I know that Luke and Ben are also religious names, but I would think of them as obscure to the general audience than say Ezra or Christian. I also don't think Lucas intentionally used biblical names or references when he was writing the OT (although, the virgin birth of Skywalker in the PT was a huge one). It's probably just my current cynicical attitude towards religious innuendos in sci-fi.

"Jedi" comes from the Japanese word jidaigeki, which means a type of historical drama featuring samurai. Kurosawa films, especially The Hidden Fortress, informed a lot of Episode IV.
