Desired expansions list...

By Stormtrooper721, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

As an Imperial Stormtrooper fan, I'm very jealous of the Rebel Trooper expansion that comes with THREE Rebel troopers! I'm hoping to see:

Sandtrooper squad pack (with 3 figures)

Sandtrooper on a Dewback

Stormtrooper squad pack (I don't want to buy multiple starters just to get Stormtroopers)

Stormtrooper heavy weapons squad (3 figures with T-21 repeating blasters)

Stormtrooper sniper squad (3 figures with DLT-19 blaster rifles)

What are your desired expansions?

I hope so as well. I know the basic game has 9 Stormtroopers (Which is great for starters) but I would also like to expand on that in the future.

I would LOVE a Tatooine expansion . . .

Tusken Raiders, Jawas, Bantha, Dewback, Womp Rats and a very sweet Krayt Dragon.

Oh yes, please.

Since you can have 4 regular Storm trooper squads and 2 elite storm trooper squads in a skirmish game, I'd expect to see them as an villain pack at some point, probably wave 2. It would be nice if they were alternate sculpts.

My guess as to why they are not in the first wave is 2 fold. One people would complain the FFG is just after money and they should have included all the required storm troopers in the base set. Two, I'm sure completionist who can't wait will be buying two core sets so they can field a max legion of stormtroopers, and then they will still have to buy the villain pack to get any unique cards and senarios.

Keep in mind that the villain grunts are most likely to be found in the adventure and campaign expansions. You have to view the way they release expansions from a boardgame perspective, not a miniature game perspective.

I agree with the black man that a Tatooine expansion would be great! For good reason it's the planet that simply screams Star Wars, and I'm sure FFG are aware of this. A Krayt Dragon would be a bit too large for this game though. :)

More stormtroopers are always welcome, but I wonder if we might see Dark Troopers before we see alternate stormtroopers. Descent is of course a very different setting, but besides the two different types of goblins I can't remember any monsters with several versions.

Sithborg is of course also right that the imperial forces will mainly come from the regular expansions and the Rebels are the ones that will need some extra grunts to fill out their ranks. That said, I'm sure they'll release the figures from the core as villain sets eventually.

Keep in mind that the villain grunts are most likely to be found in the adventure and campaign expansions. You have to view the way they release expansions from a boardgame perspective, not a miniature game perspective.

But it's not a pure boardgame. There will be tournaments for thd skirmish game. As such there will be demand for expansions to flesh out certain builds, ie Stormtrooper swarms. Certainly FFG could put more stormtroopers in future boxes, but I think most boardgame focused players will not be pleased if thd next 3 boxes have more stormtroopers that will never be used in the campaign setting.

I wouldn't be surprised to see boxes similar to the Hero and Monster collections that Descent puts out. These could be themed by faction with the purpose of giving each faction a significant boost to the types of squads you can build while also including the necessary components to integrate them into a campaign game. I imagine that Tuskens and Jawas (with maybe a Bantha and/or Krayt Dragon) would make a good Mercenary box. Then an Imperial player could use them as open group enemies in the campaign.

Or not. It could just as easily by a small box campaign expansion that takes you through the Dune Sea, Jundland Wastes, and Mos Eisley/Espa.

I will say, though, that a Tatooine expansion of some sort will excite me much more than Hoth. I feel a little Hoth'ed out at the moment. I think it's because I got the Hoth box for Star Wars Miniatures and that was probably the scenario I played the most of. But I never really got to explore Jawas, Tusken Raiders, or Ewoks.

These all sound great! I'd also like to see them adopt a version of what they are doing with the LOTR LCG in terms of the saga expansions...A boxed set aimed at playing through the events of the movies with the chance to have an ongoing campaign. Shoot out in the detention area, defending the hoth base, escaping cloud city, rescuing Han...some good stuff there. Though the amount of the story that takes place in space bound battles might be problematic.

The Arc Hammer boxed set. Comes with a new campaign focusing on Kyle Katarn, Jan Ors and the imperial forces of that factory ship. Including General Rom Mohc and the dreaded Dark Troopers (all three phases).

A droid engineer who can deploy with a customized droid and gets bonuses to tech use checks. Also, can we please branch out from the Human/Twilek/Wookiee thing? There are literally hundreds of species to choose from, yet every SW game seems to have the same core of choices.

Humans are a default, you need them. Some people find it hard to play an alien species as they find it difficult to connect to them.

Wookiees are pretty iconic.

The various tendrel headed aliens have a HUGE fan following.

They did toss in a Bothan in the core set though.

Hoth packs:

Snow troopers

Wampa

Rebel on tauntaun

Jabba's palace

Rancor (pleaspleaseplease FF make it the same color as the vintage Kenner action figure!)

jabba the Hutt

Salacious Crumb?

Gamorean Guards

Boba Fett

Endor set

Scout trooper on speeder bike

Ewoks

Bounty hunters

All of them! From 4-Lom to Zuckuss!

Also, can we please branch out from the Human/Twilek/Wookiee thing? There are literally hundreds of species to choose from, yet every SW game seems to have the same core of choices.

True, but this is only core set and the core needs to appeal to a broad audience. Since people are familiar with these species, it's likely to be more appealing. I'm actually quite surprised there were 3 humans. I would have figured they'd put a droid in one of those slots since R2-D2 and C-3PO were so integral to the entire saga. Maybe we'll see a hero with an astromech sidekick that acts like the familiars in Descent and Dungeonquest. Or maybe just an astromech. How cool would that be!?

I think another problem with using lots of species is that they're often type-casted. You can't really use Gands, Trandoshans, Rodians, Hutts, Niktos, Weequays, Jawas, or Tusken Raiders as heroes because most people consider them to be the bad guys. A Bith? I think people would just laugh at that. I could be wrong, though. I'd laugh and then I'd pick the Bith. They could have gone with a Togruta, but a female Togruta Jedi may be too close to Ahsoka Tano.

Miraluka, Cathar, and Selkath are also way cool, but probably too niche since they are primarily featured in Old Republic times.

Like you said, there are so many species to choose from, I can't wait to see what heroes they come up with for future expansions.

/end rambling

Firstly Boba Fett encounter please. Plenty of expanded universe encounters with Rebels and Boba, so should easily to fit in to the game. Boba's so iconic he needs to be in the next set of expansions.

Secondly some sort of droids expansion. Could add some great mission variation i.e. droid needs to access security panel to escape/access/turn something off. Doesn't need to be R2 & C3-P0 but cool if it was.

Thirdly Dash Rendar and LE-BO2D9 expansion(double pack). Would fit in very nicely with the game and may also cover off my second wish.

Lastly a grunts pack with different poses and cards please.

Naturally I would also like to see Leia, Obi and other bounty hunters come along as well as different hero poses down the line.

Tiles wise the Death Star would be awesome but may not fit in. Maybe a Mos Eisley setting would be more appropriate.

As a longtime RPG fan, I can tell you that its a lot of fun to play non-stereotypical species/class combinations, and not just to be "that guy".There is absolutely nothing dictating that ceratain species are always "bad guys", and its time to get over the type-casting of certain races, even Trandoshans or Gamorreans. Remember that the Star Wars (expanded)universe is a complex place with complex characters. The Empire is not too fond of non-humans, so almost every species has its own motivations for rebelling against the Empire and fighting for the Red team. I think we can all agree that a character with a droid companion would be pretty cool, I'd also love to see a Bounty Hunter, a "Grey" Jedi, a dancer...this game is gonna get expensive quickly...

^This x1000. It could be viewed as a cash grab, but I'd love to see alternate grunt models.

Yeah, like Piggy, the Gamorrean from the X-wing books and that scardy-cat trandoshan from the Knights of the Old Republic comics.

I totally see where you're coming from. Creating novel characters that break the mold is very interesting ... if you already have a grasp on what the expectation is. For many Star Wars fans, they love movies, they love the toys, but they haven't read much of the expanded universe content. For them, when they seek something Star Wars, it needs a very specific feel. It needs to feel reminiscent of the movies and that means you've got smugglers, wookiees, droids, princesses, and hot-shot pilot-Jedi. In order to give Imperial Assault broader appeal, I think they needed to keep things pretty basic for the core. Most of the people who want Star Wars to feel like the movies aren't necessarily hard-core EU experts. They're also less likely to continue expanding the game and will be satisfied with just the core. I fully hope and expect to get interesting characters like the ones you mentioned in future expansions.

[i am making broad generalizations about a certain population of Star Wars fans based on my older brother and his family who are Star Wars fans enough to have 7 Jedi on their license plate, but don't know much outside of the movies. I am probably wrong, but I am merely sharing my perception of the situation.]

I don't think there is anything wrong with spreading their wings and moving into other character areas. But you can't get too wild with your initial offering. You need to establish the game with characters the player can relate to, and connect to.

While you (and I) prefer the more off-the-wall unique characters, the vast majority of players in fact do not.

While you (and I) may view nearly any star wars race as a possible hero, the vast majority of players in fact do not.

Going against the stereotypical norm with the initial release could ostracize part of your fan-base.

In any RPG where you can play any multitude of races, human tends to rank in the majority, if not at least a strong plurality. Again, the other races they touched on are iconic and fan favorites.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of players of this game are only going to be familiar with the movies, and maybe the cartoons. The majority of people don't know anything about the EU. Heck, you could probably say that the majority of SW fans don't know much about the EU. The idea of a Gamorean piloting a X-wing, or a giant green space bunney teaming up with Han would seem a bit odd and out of place.

Beyond that, even in the EU, stuff like that was rare. The reason these types of character stand out so much is that there was only a handful of them. They really did go against the grain.

If future expansions bring us more heroes, I'd expect us to see a bit more variety (along with a human or two) each time. But I'd still expect it to stick to the more common themes for awhile.

SPEEDER BIKES

for imperial and rebel commandos

Rancor and kryat dragons

thats a nice start.

then, new troopers rebel em storm, missel launchers, snipers, e web blasters etc etc

Kazdan paratus would be awesome and his golems. Everything from the force unleashed game would be nice to see as future expansions

Wow, Im surprised to be the first one to say this: Mara Jade

My list, on top of what others have said:

  • Mara Jade
  • Boba Fett
  • Kyle Katarn
  • R2-D2/3PO/Droids
  • Tarkin
  • Veers
  • Leia
  • Xizor/Guri
  • Generic Bounty Hunters
  • Crix Madine
  • THE EMPRAH!

What, no love for Lando? We need him too. :)

I really hope there is a sort of "main set" with each wave. A new mini-campaign or several missions to integrate into the main campaign, a couple of new heroes (maybe an independent droid with an over-the-top fondness for high explosives, for one), and some new units both for campaign and skirmish modes. Then there can be ally and villain packs that tie in well with the theme of that main set.

Say the second wave focuses on dealing with the Hutts on Tatooine. The main set could include Sandtroopers and Imperial Intelligence officers for the Empire, Jabba's goons (Klatooinians with blasters and Weequay with vibro-axes, for instance) and 4-LOM and Zuckuss (who get benefits when within 3 squares of each other) for the mercenary faction, and a couple of new Rebel heroes. Ally and villain packs could include Leia Organa, Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, and the Rancor, to name a few.

As far as movie characters who we don't have yet, I really want Leia (and soon), R2-D2 and C-3PO (together), Lando, Boba Fett, Bossk, 4-LOM and Zuckuss (together), and Jabba. We can always use more generic spacers, Snowtroopers, Sandtroopers, Scout Troopers, Imperial Army and Navy troopers, Rebel commandos, etc.

My list, on top of what others have said:

  • Mara Jade
  • Boba Fett
  • R2-D2/3PO/Droids
  • Tarkin

I actually brought up a Mara Jade figure sometime in September. She would be great for this game as she could have cards for ALL three factions as she had been a member of each in the Expanded Universe.

I mentioned Boba Fett as well, and that his abilities should be even more threatening and unique than IG-88.

Also I said I would love to see the droids in this game, with cool, new mechanics.

Grand Moff Tarkin is actually my favorite character from The Original Trilogy but the events of Imperial Assault, at least currently, occur right after A New Hope. I'm sure future expansions can be set in an earlier time period as well.

Edited by Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun

I think Mara Jade is bit optimistic as old EU pretty much got disowned couple of months ago.

I just want Starkiller.
