What do you do when you have too many ships?

By RagnarokSquadron, in X-Wing

It started innocently enough. A local Facebook group posting. Someone is looking to get out of the game. He's got a handful of ships, but there's a juicy YT-1300 there. "I want a second one of those!" I think to myself. Make contact, set up the exchange of goods.

But as these things often do, one things leads to another. His friends are wanting out as well. They've got ships to go through. The pictures and lists are all running together now, but hey, a second Firespray never hurt anybody! I'm sure it'll be okay.

Fast forward to last night, and I'm holding a package that weighs about 14 pounds. Ships. Dials. Tokens. Range rulers. Movement templates. Cards. Bases. Tokens. Pegs. Tokens. Dice. Tokens.

What have I done?

Overnight, my collection doubled in size.

What am I gonna do with this stuff? How do I store it? Should I sell some of it off? Should I trade it for other gaming stuff (my girlfriend and I are really getting into Android: Netrunner)? Maybe I can practice painting the ships.

What would you do here? Help me. Please.

Too many ships?

No such thing.

Use them, when you get bored (if that ever happens) sell them and move on to the next game.

Well, that all depends on how big this makes your collection. I mean, I don't think there really is a way to have too many ships. Well . . . I suppose if you get to the point where you could make an entire Epic list out of one type of ship and still have minis to spare, that might be too much. :P

I think you should keep them, and try painting a few. If you need to sell them later, you can.

Without sitting down to do the math, I'm pretty sure I could personally field two different 300-point games using just my collection. I'm sitting on 60 ships at this point.

if i have to many ships i glue em together to one perfect BEING !!!

nah joke aside >.>

try using those fishing cases they are perfect in transporting ships iam going to make some photos and a video maybe. to show u how iam storing my stuff

I have ended up with a few too many X-wings buying starters and transports. I just put my extra ships in a different box in my closet.

Amazingly, I still don't have any of the stuff from the Transport or the Corvette. Not to mention waves 5 and 6 coming soon. I am swimming in stuff already.

Paladin do you have extra x ing cards from the transport you don't need?

You contact battlefoam and design a new storage case. Eventually I plan on having a case for each faction. Right now I have a 720 that holds everything.

This is definitely a serious problem. Send me a PM and I'll send you my address. You can send your extras to me, and I'll be sure to give them good homes.

The real thing to consider is the growing number of people bailing on this game.

I did but my sons already claimed them.

I really think the collections we are seeing on ebay aren't really people bailing. I think it's just people cashing in on the outrageous prices being charged now.

If I wasn't such a pack rat I might be tempted to get rid of some stuff myself. Years of sellers remorse have taken ideas like that away from me though. :)

I don't understand the OP's question.

I could use some more ships... I'll take 'em.

Well, this wasn't even a collection on eBay. I traded some stuff I had that I didn't want for stuff he had that he didn't want. From my communication with the guy, it was more an issue of finding people to play with locally, rather than dissatisfaction with the game. I really don't think that there's anything to worry about when it comes to the health of the game or players "getting out" for whatever reason.

I've considered trying to sell my small collection to some sucker on eBay for 10X its worth so that I can have the money needed to build a fantastically large collection. :D

Anyone know any suckers?

I think the main thing I'm going to do with them is set aside X number of each type of ship and practice painting them. I've never done miniatures painting, so it might be something fun I could add to my game experience. If somebody wants to try to buy the stuff at a later date, I'd be open to selling off anything I didn't want/need any more.

It kind of depends how many of each ship you have. You say around 60 ships, but how is that distributed? If you have ridiculous numbers of one ship I'd flick some off, but if you have a good distribution it might be just a good collection which you want to keep. I'd keep four of each small ship (6 A-wings, 8 TIEs & Z95s) and three of each large, then see what you have over that.

set them all on the kitchen table stand back look at them and smile

The most glaring big numbers are the 7 X-Wings, the 6 Interceptors, the 6 B-Wings, the 5 Phantoms, and the 5 Defenders. Unfortunately, I didn't get any extras for A-Wings or Z-95s; I would have loved to get a couple more of those.

60 ships seems perfectly reasonable to me...

What's the problem exactly?

The main issue is storing all these ships, and the duplicates that I'll never be able to use all of. I don't have a whole lot of opportunities to play epic, and that's the only place five Defenders or seven X-Wings would be able to work.

I wonder if you could sell them to Team Covenant, which can then parcel out the parts individually. There are a number of separate things that I would like to buy there, but so much is out of stock.

A quick glance over at their website doesn't show a way to sell items to them. I think I'm just going to sort some of them out and practice painting them. Something themed and personalized, unique to me. Hopefully I can make it look at least decent.
