Question on the splat book obligations...

By rowdyoctopus, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Right now I only have Enter the Unknown, however due to OggDude's program, I know the other career splat books add career specific obligations (as does Enter the Unknown).

Can characters intending to take other careers take those obligations? For example, Enter the Unknown (the Explorer sourcebook) adds Fervor and Sponsorship as obligations. Could a Smuggler Pilot take Sponsorship as his obligation? I guess it does say in the book, "As with all things in gaming, whatever works best for the players and their GM is acceptable."

Just wanted to hear other opinions on it.

The Obligations listed in every book are simply suggestions. The ones in the splatbooks are those that the game designers feel would be particularly appropriate and interesting for the given career.

So...yeah! A Technician could take Adrenaline Rush or A Score to Settle. Whatever suits your character the best is kosher, including any Obligation you can imagine up.

I had completely glossed over the part where the core rulebook says you can make up your own obligation. Thanks!

I'm helping 5 of my friends create characters. They are using OggDude's generator and one of them saw an obligation for a book I don't have yet, wanted to know if he could use it. Re-reading the CRB Obligation section helped.
