OT: Conducting kids orchestra tomorrow

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

So. Uhh. Any tips on dealing with children. Conducting. Leadership of energetic beings. Life lessons? =P

I'm conducting a little orchestra my old conductor helped branch. So far we definitely don't have enough people, but I'm hoping that learning what we have for now will be helpful for teaching the kids life-long skills that help with playing music, reading a conductor, and just having fun with the hobby.

Good luck... not sure I have anything that would help here.. lol

Tips of the day:

Call them younglings or padawans.

Say things like "music is a force that binds all living things in the universe together", "Trust your feelings, let the music flow through you" "Try there is no try. Do or do not, that is why you fail (to hit the right note)"

Use a mini-lightsaber as your conducting stick!

Blanket ban all sugar and provide all drinks laced with Ritalin and you should have a quiet day.

Dressing up as Emperor Palpatine (from OT of course) should yield some interesting reactions.

... and you should have a quiet day.

How would that help with music unless the only song you are playing is "Four Minuets and Thirty-three Seconds"?

Okay. So. It happened.

I think it went okay. Haha, I'll see in subsequent weeks if the kids warm up to me. One thing I did that I shouldn't do is talk so much. =/ I talk way too much. More playing, less talking.

Have them play the Star Wars theme of course.
