Creating Weapons: Cathar Warstaff

In our next game, I'm creating a Cathar Marauder (Force Sensitive Emergent).

Our GM is allowing me to create a Cathar Warstaff...

I'm thinking I'll base it off of an Ancient Sword (except it's a melee weapon, not a lightsaber) and I'd add the (Unwieldy) item quality (maybe a 2 or 3). I'm wondering how it would act when it's not in it's ready position (pictured above) - it's blades retract toward the handle when not in use - it can be worn on the back or carried. It may have 'Linked 1' as well...

What do you think? How would you build it?

Just reskin the double bladed lightsaber, using the ancient sword damage and no breach or vicious qualities.

It looks like a very unique weapon for SW and is pretty cool looking. Think you might stat it like a vibro sword with an opportunity to hit twice?

Edited: vibro sword stats for each blade with the opportunity to hit twice? Also you could modify or use a Jedi fighting style to suite it.

i think the double bladed aspect can be copied from the double saber, with the vibrosword stats so:

Skill: Melee

Damage: +2

Crit: 2

Range: Engaged

Encumbrance: 3 (blades retracted) / 4 (blades extended)

HP: 3

Special: Linked 1,Unwieldy 3, defensive 1, Vicious 1, Pierce 1

Here's what I came up with using your advice - I didn't add any of the Vibroblade aspects, since it's just a bladed staff with fancy pop-out blades.

Cathar Warstaff
Skill: Melee
Damage: +2
Crit: 3
Range: Engaged
Specials:
Defensive 1
Linked: 1
Unwieldy: 3

Enc: 3
Hard Pts: 2
Rarity: 6

Tested this out in yesterday's game. There was a point when I lept into a group of minions and hit two (with the Linked) - basically my character came down with the warstaff before her and took them both down to the ground. It was very anime'ish.

It did decent against their leader, a Rival. Cut after cut finally brought him down. He had a hell of a Soak.
