Setting and atmosphere for playing X-Wing

By Pestage, in X-Wing

Does anyone here prep for games by getting the setting just right, or am I the only one? I'm naturally talking about anything beyond dimming the lights and lighting candles.

- Starfield playmat is a given, we always use this to provide a nice backdrop which elevates the whole experience.

- Any one of the Star Wars movies running in the background.

- A playlist that streams music from the Star Wars movies,

- Snacks and drinks.

So how do you set up before a match? I was thinking I might bring a soundbard in for the next game, but going "pew-pew-pew" never gets old.

Starmap

We're next to the kitchen so drinks and snacks are on hand

tend to have the starwars/com soundboard open on the xwing vs tiefighter page and we dont use it all the time but we use it for a destoryed ship, a particularly good shot or a good or close manouvre.

Like lets says someone arc dodges but only just with their tie we play the tie 'roooooar' noise

Film on in the background has been tried but it can be distracting.

Starmap for sure. I have all the soundtracks too so most of the times the background music is thematic, yes. No snacks or drinks on the table/playing field though. Nearby maybe but never directly on the table.

I read the subject as 'Setting an atmosphere for playing X-wing" ... as in, if you were to have a battle on a planet surface, would you make considerations for atmospheric conditions.

Silly me.

Starmap + John Williams + Beer + Pretzels + Pizza

Seconded.

Putting the movies on during our games never works because we figured out that nobody watches.

Seeing a new narrative play out on the table is much more entertaining than watching a narrative we've seen a million times already :P

Starmap and food is a must.

Yep. Mat if someone brought it. (Usually not) A table if there's one.

Dim the lights put on some Barry White.

I have a playlist that I used to listen while playing SWTOR.

star wars, two steps from hell, SWTOR, audiomachine, clone wars, etc.

advice: if you have music playing for 3+ hours in the background make certain you mix up the playlist. 3+ hours of John Williams star wars Soundtrack will get tired.

What has really changed my life when it comes to X Wing is a 4'x4' folding card table.

Here is the a spotify Star Wars playlist I made - mostly OT and mostly the action / battle cues (ie - none of the slower tracks like Yoda's theme or Princess Leia)

X-Wing

Had not thought of adding the Clone Wars score to it - will look into that.

I had 'Star Wars Uncut' playing in the background for my last battle. Distracting sometimes, but provided a lot of comedic relief and general fun to the atmosphere of the game.
