This is a friendly game, so I'm not looking for ultimate efficiency. For me, X-wing has always been about capturing the feel of the 'star wars dogfight', and too much min-maxing (I.E taking as many rookies or Falcons as possible) won't be fun for me. However I do think swapping out Flechette torps & failsafe on Luke for Predator would give me some needed anti-swarm capability. Still, I love the idea of piling 4 stress on a guy (thinking of phantoms/interceptors here) in one round, and not losing my flechettes with failsafe would be a laugh.
