Senator's shuttle and Upgrades

By Erny, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Mission 1: Political Escort (100 pt.).

*Treat the senator's shuttle as a Rebel ship*

So, can I use upgrade card on it, like Hull/Shield Upgrade?

I don't think so. Modifications were invented after Mission 1. But since it's only a mission, and not an important tournament situation I would house rule it to your liking.

No. Does it say you can in the 'mission briefing'?

Why don't you just add 'Expert Handling' or, wait possibly 'Predator'??? Hummmm......

I'm usually the first person to get snarky, but this just felt over the top to me.

It's a legit question, Modifications do not require an upgrade slot, and in the rules it says any ship may equip 1 modification and 1 title. Obviously EPTs wouldn't work because it has no EPT slot... that just comes off rather dumb...

You may be right about the mission briefing not allowing upgrades at all, but this person is obviously new...

So, it's a valid question, maybe chill with the attitude, hum?

Aaaaand ... Ninja'd.

I think we can all tend towards snark from time to time, but I'm not entirely sure ORJ has ever contributed anything else.

As for the actual question.

The scenario was designed (probably) without modifications in mind, so it is probably meant to be balanced without giving the shuttle an extra hull, but like Udo says, it's a scenario, the best thing about those is tweaking the parameters and seeing how it works. So go for it (if your opponent is OK with it)

I was under the impression it was just a bog-standard ship that had to be escorted. Save the upgrades for the fighters.

Given that the goal is for the shuttle to survive long enough to escape the board, from a tactical perspective it makes a fair amount of sense to give it defensive buffs if you are able.

Of course, shield upgrade has no benefit over hull upgrade in this case. Engine upgrade, on the other hand, would probably make it WAAAY too easy for the shuttle to escape.

In this case, no. Senator's shuttle can't perform no action, nor attack.

This is true. The special rules for it give very restricted movement and say no actions. It also can't take critical hits, either, just facedown damage cards.

Who's actually played this mission? Or was it too long ago to remember? :)

Ack. Missed the no actions clause. I was just assuming that they were assuming that since it had no action bar it would have no actions it could perform.

Well, like I said, did you actually play this mission? I know I haven't. I think the only mission I've actually played was one from the Tantive rules when one of the guys bought the model. We thought we'd better give it a go. Maybe I should go back and have another look at these missions...

No, I haven't either. The only mission I have played is the one from imperial aces.

I keep thinking it would be cool to go back and play through all, what, 12, 15? Missions. Whatever number they are up to.

Is there a list of all the missions somewhere? I didn't get the Imperial Aces, so I've never seen those missions, and I don't have any huge ships, so none of those missions either. I'd like to give some a go now.

The IA one is cool. The empire is testing a new prototype ship and the rebels need to destroy it. During the game the imp player can activate various buffs for the prototype, extra attack dice, all maneuvers green, second attack, that sort of thing.

As for a list. I don't have one specifically, but the core set had 3 missions, every large ship had one, both aces packs had 1 and the huge ships both had some number of them. So... 10 missions including wave 5, plus however many the huge ships had, 4 and 3 I think.

I was just wondering if there was somewhere I could read them or download them, a pdf file or something, know what I mean?

It wouldn't be a stupid idea for FFG to put them up on the site somewhere. Even some new missions would be a great idea.

You may just have to find someone who has all of the scenarios and ask them to scan them for ya. I've got them all...Somewhere...

I'm honestly surprised that FFG doesn't have them available

Yeah, me too. I've just started a document to gather all the missions I've got and I'm using Mission Builder to help with the maps, but a general archive would be the ideal solution.

X-Wing Miniatures Missions

Just downloaded it. Exactly what I was looking for.

YOU DA MAN!

:D

You are correct sir...

So, what do we have.

Senator's shuttle (m1) and disabled ship (m6) - the ships.

Container (m4) and escape pod (m9) - no ships.

Modification card says: "Any ship may equip a modification". I think senator's shuttle and disabled ship may equip it.
