Elite Squad, no upgrades ...

Hi all,

I'd like some advice from the community on a weird squad to build. We have a league were the better players get penalties when playing lower ranked players to keep it interesting for the newbies. My upcomming match has the restrictions: only unique pilots, no upgrades except ordinance.

Quite a tricky one, especially since I believe my opponent will bring a phantom.

This is what I came up with:

Kath Scarlet 38

Winged Gundark 15

Night Beast 15

Backstabber 16

Dark Curse 16

for an even 100.

Kath might get a chance to stress a phantom and the auxiliary arc could come in handy.

The Ties are in pairs of PS5 and PS6 making it easier to fly.

An alternative would be the 6 named Ties, but that means wasting points and with the Firespray I have a few more hitpoints on the table.

The defender looked nice as well, but Kath seems better suited against a phantom.

I looked into naked Han, Corran and Cracken, but the damage output is not convincing ...

Any other ideas? Thanks...

If you've got ordnance available load with with flechettes. Wedge Antilles is a good call too. If you want Empire break out the TIE bombers and TIE defenders.

That or Howlswarm it.

If you're flying against a Phantom you're going to be seeing Echo and Whisper, probably with VI. In which case, your 2 attack dice ships are going to get completely wasted since they'll fire after the cloaking effect kicks in. Phantoms will ruin this list.

Not sure if flechettes help. First you need to see it and then get through the defence, and without VI and focus that will be tough.

Do you think XXXZ would do better thanks to 3 attack dice?

You don't have to hit with Flechette's to stress it. Just sayin.

If you are both running named lists without upgrades, you should not have to worry about giving stress to Phantoms because they will not have ACD. This expands your ability to use any skill that would benefit your list with action efficiency. Rebels have Dutch and Garven who have great buffing abilities and Airen Cracken can also be thrown in to buff someone else's attack. Wedge will always melt faces if he has extra actions and you can make him last longer when you pair him with the ultimate meat shield, Biggs.

Imperial wise, Turr Phennir has one of the best abilities in the game, even without PTL. Royal Guards shine as 22 pt PS 6's while all six of the named TIE/ln pilots can be flown for 97 points. If you have worries that you may not choose the right bearing during a de cloak, try Boba Fett. Lots of great possibilities if you don't have to use upgrades on both sides, so don't worry about any single threat.
