Very Important: How to Phonetically Represent Laser Sounds

By millernumber1, in X-Wing

So, I was chatting with a friend about X-Wing and TIE fighter laser sounds, and discovered that while we both think that "pew pew" is not an adequate representation of either ship's laser sound, we disagreed about the proper method of pronouncing them. I think a TIE should be sounded "Chew chew chchchchchch," while he thought it was more like "Kew kew khkhkhkh." To me, an X-Wing sounds like "Pugch pugch," while he thinks is should be more like "Wugch wugch."

What do Star Wars lasers sound like to you, and how would you represent them in text? :)

"Pew" "Pew" "Pew"

How hard would it be to rip the *.wavs off of Xwing v tie fighter and make a sound board?

Shouldn't be too difficult, I've already converted the music files in X-wing Alliance to mp3 format ;)

edit: in fact, a cursory Google search brings up this page, which might be of assistance.

Fwap Fwap Fwap. (Rebel red laser)

pewpewpew. pewpewpew (Imperial green)

phwoosh (proton torp)

choosh. (missile)

CLUNK (bomb).

Any we are missing?

I just want to add that there IS an android x-wing mini soundboard app. I am downloading it now.

Ptchew?

I find there is just something about this game which makes it impossible to not add your own "sound effects" as you play.

X-wing lasers always sounded like "womb-womp"s to me.

In space, sound cannot travel, and no one can hear you scream.

This has to be number one on my list of favorite thread topics.

Arvel Crynyd disagrees.

Pickachu?

I quite like "Fwap Fwap." :)

X-wing: wetwetwetwet boom

Tie Fighter: tyjchchchchch

Falcon: dshdshdshdshdsh

Firespray: bweebweebweebwee

A-wing/Y-wing: cheuw cheuw cheuw

Bonus:

Tie Engine: rrarrrr (makes sense since it was an elephant scream)

Death Star: dawdawdawdaw boosh

nah it's more like wet-wet-wet-wet boom. (for a 4 laser burst)

I still maintain fwap fwap.

Wetwetwet is a terrible 80s group.

Do you just like fwap fwap because it has connotations of naked actresses?

No, no that's Fap Fap. There's definitely a W in there.

It's fwap fwap when I do it.

I'll stop now...

I like these as well! I would add that the Falcon/X-Wing engines sound like "ssssshhhhhhh" sometimes with an added "rrrr" if it's starting up.

I didn't know about the elephant scream - cool!

I was going to go with your ideas of Chew and Pugch but after listening to the audio samples I can't describe them in words.

That's why I got an X-wing soundboard. I don't have to make the sound effects, I have an android device that does a way better job. Time for Twin Ion Engine screams

Yea, among other things, it is a mix of sounds but it is predominantly an elephant scream.
