Debate: Flying with Force Move

By T3CHN0Shaman, in General Discussion

So, one of the things generally established in the EU is that a Jedi can use the Force to provide a boost or slow themselves, but they can't use it to hold themselves up. On the other hand, Jedi can use the Force to hold up and move other people or objects. There also doesn't seem to be any other rules regarding conditions for using the ability; ie: no leverage required.

So... Can two Force Users fly by using Force Move to hold each other up? Debate!

It sounds as a creative way of using the power :)

We don't have to be restricted by doing the things we see in the movies only.

They can do it if the GM says so. EoL.

If you want to allow it, seems possible enough. I'd just suggest taking into account that both force users would need to deal with holding their concentration while they move around as well as dealing with needing to keep the powers up for as long as would be necessary. Could be handled the same way as suggestions in the "Moving and Duration" sidebars in each book - committing force die, requiring the players to repeat the check every so often, strain being inflicted. Maybe even added Discipline checks if they want to use the damage/move an object quickly Control upgrade to try and go at faster speeds.

Can he read my mind?...

Just move your clothing with you in it. :)

That is very important because if you only move your clothing , it might be worth a Conflict point or two.

I think people are missing the point... It wasn't a mechanics question. It was a geek question.

What is more geeky than comic book heroes and Dr. Seuss? ;)

Beats having an older brother shove your head in the toilet afterwards.

Two words for you: "LEGO Star Wars"

Two words for you: "LEGO Star Wars"

That's three words... ¬.¬

Here's three more words: "it was a joke."

On a more serious, geeky note, I don't see this happen anywhere in the Clone Wars or the prequels. People utilizing telekinesis are always planted firmly on the ground...or sometimes the ceiling.

However, if we are talking about flying in general...

My take on the matter is that Levitate would be a separate power, much like Bind is separate from Move, although both are applications of telekineses.

I don't know about Clone Wars but since the only sources that mention lifting yourself in the first place are EU I'm not that concerned. I definitely seem to recall examples of jedi moving things around while fighting in midair. Wish I could be more explicit than that.

In all fairness, the star destroyer was already crashing. He just guided it. With great effort.

It was "falling with style ".

I say do whatever makes your game awesome! However, in all cases lifting anything seems to take incredible effort for most Jedi.... however, Force use in the Clone Wars cartoons is entirely inconsistent, jedi using the force to lift people up off ledges, then suddenly not being able to do so as the plot requires...Sense seems entirely alien to the series....etc...

Juno: "You brought down a STAR DESTROYER?!"

Galen: "It was on fire..structurally unsound. It was coming down anyway."

Actually, the old WEG Star Wars RPG says that some Jedi use the Move power to fly slowly or even push their starship when the engines have failed/were destroyed. So yeah, it's been part of SWRPG for a while :P
