Joining CorSec?

By Lukey84, in Game Masters

How would one go about joining CorSec? Especially if they're associates with a thief and a drug addict? I've got a PC that wants to join but I can't figure out how it can work based on her associates. What exactly would be involved In Signing up and actually getting in?

Is there anything in that Corellian book?

Suns and fortune or whatever its called... come to think about it what about Far Horizons?

Both books I really ought to pick up but in regards to your question I would have expected that in the first one I suggested above unless they're planning a more relevant sourcebook on that organisation.

Nothing in Suns of Fortune from what I can see.

Your group's reputation is represented through your groups total obligation. CorSec is likely not going to want to deal with a member of the group that has over 30 obligation. The best way to handle that is to have CorSec ask the PC to deal with his friends and turn them around. In another words, drop that group obligation below 30 (or whatever threshold the GM wants to set).

Alternatively, the PC could pursue membership in CorSec without his group's help/input and sign up that way. In that case, I'd make whether or not they accept him a function of his own Obligation score. However, since CorSec is basically a police force, he'd have to train at an academy and pass, which would take time. This would best be handled during a lengthy time skip between sessions, i.e. a year during which everyone takes care of their own business.

When I do time skips like that, I typically award extra XP to reflect the (mis)adventures the group gets up to while "off screen." You could consider awarding XP enough so that this player could buy a second specialization as a Marshal from Far Horizons .

You could always have them deputised during an investigation? CorSec need to hire a private detective to investigate something they don't have the manpower for/is out of system/will require underworld infiltration and the PC volunteers. He's never really going to be able to be a full-on officer given the scope of EotE ("Sorry guys I have to be at Corellia Station for my 9-5 shift all this month, I'll have to sit this adventure out"), but there's plenty of scope for him to be a deputised investigator, CorSec-approved bounty hunter, underworld contact or otherwise.

Thanks! I'm going to have start with them becoming contacts and see how they play it from there. If the party continues to be helpful then the PC may go through the academy and testing.

What do you think the test would involve? Athletics, Ranged Heavy/Light, Knowledge: Core? I'm thinking a Hard difficulty on all.

CorSec could be looking for a guy who has underworld contacts and try to recruit him as an under cover agent/informent.

I would have CorSec come to them: rathar than the PCs coming to CorSec asking for a job, have them meet a recruiter looking for some rogues with more "shady" contacts to help take down a pirate organization. If they succeed, they get paid and are offered a permanent job.

Or you could narate that corsec will do a severe background check on all applicants. Depending on the groups obligations and especially the players obligations, he might be forced to aquire a new identity and /or take some serious effort to hide the underworld things he is connected to. This would require several adventures, to obtain a new identity and hide all traces. The adventures could lead into the player being accepted at corrsec. But maybe behind the curtain corsec found out who he really is and trys to get hands on all his underworld contacts, without him noticing. Or he is denied and as others have said, they want him to spy on the crimelords he is connected with, or else he or his group will be imprissoned.

All that could lead to pretty interesting storys. In general i would say that the whole plan is very daring and bold, thus great risks are involved. If the players fail additional obligations might be appropriate. The payout on the other side might be worth the trouble. Inside information about operations and procedures, new connections, the ability to aquire military-labled equipment much easier, for the group or for smuggling. Double crossing either corsec or crimelord cartels.
