Committing force dice

By usgrandprix, in Game Mechanics

Committing force dice is in a lot of powers. Many say the action to commit and/or that it is part of a force power check.

Some, like sense, do not say. In this case is it part of a force power check? If not, what is the action required to commit these dice? Does the "if it doesn't say it's a standard action" rule apply?

When it is an action all in itself just to commit the dice, you don't need to roll a check or anything, you're just removing the force di©e from your current Force Rating pool to switch on the ongoing. Keep in mind though that you can't commit multiple dice in the same action though - so, for instance, you can't commit 2 dice to activate both of Sense's ongoings in a single action.

Besides that, you can assume it takes up an entire action unless it specifically says otherwise:

So for example with one of the Sense ongoings, it says: "Commit [Force Die]. Once per round [blah blah, rest of the actual effect] ...."

But with Bind's Duration ongoing, it says: "Commit [2 Force dice] as an incidental after successfully activating the basic power. [Power Effect]"

.

Besides that, you can assume it takes up an entire action unless it specifically says otherwise:

Thanks. That's just what I needed to know.
