Scyk Swarm?!

By AtillaTheFun, in X-Wing

I think it'll be 3 points, but no damage limitation, personally. Possibly 4.

I dig Serissu, but I think she'd be better leading a naked swarm than a beefed up one. Her ability gets greater value the more ships she has to give the re-roll to.

The cheapest M3-A has pilot skill of 2, so comparing them to TIEs, it looks like it's going to be 13 or 14 per ship. This means she'll likely fit as 1 ship of a 6 ship M3-A swarm, with 10 extra points for upgrades like stealth uprade, swarm tactics, and maybe one scyk with ion cannon.

Cause really these things are a lot like TIEs, just slightly more defensive (2 hull + 1 sheild > 3 hull) and slightly more offensive (same actions + TL), and we don't know about movement yet, but I'd guess it's similar. They have this interesting title to play around with, but I doubt that title will be effective in a swarm of them, because it makes them too costly to capitalize on the benefits of swarms. I think the Scyk title will be most useful for when you really need an ion cannon/flechette torp/proton rocket or some other niche need and don't have the points for a 25+ point ship.

I agree that they will definitely have that specialty role, but don't necessarily agree with the notion that more ships is always better. I know that you have more ships to use the ability on, but it's a defensive ability not an offensive one. Having more ships wouldn't really give you a benefit since most of the enemy will be shooting at the named pilot and only maybe one or two depending on the The enemy list won't get a shot at her. Having more ships to buff defensively wont matter if the enemy isn't shooting them. Also, I would much rather have four 4 dice attacks than 6 or 7 2 dice attacks. The defender is rolling fewer dice and you're rolling more offensive dice. Plus no agility bonus at range 3. Now that's deadly.

You make a really good point. Unlike Howlrunner, Serissu's ability doesnt benefit the team if she's being focused on. I'm gonna have to think about this, cause that's actually a pretty big deal.

that's Scyk!

(how was I the first with this?)

Erm we kinda used all those jokes up around gencon, every ones scyk of them now.

What was that? A Skynet hunter killer? a GIJoe vehicle?

It is going to be one of two special ships I am building for my Scum EPIC Force. They are HISS tanks, to get me started.

So awesome!

Thanks Bud!

:)

I am going to try to make it look awesome, right now I have a lot of fun WIP projects going, but when I have time to actualley work on them, I am never bored... not ever.

just make those guns normal size please

Always with the guns...

They are special Scum weapons pods, or they will be when I am done with them.

Just checking, you're aware that symbol means Zann Consortium, not Mandalorian, yes?

Thanks bud, yeah I knew, but at the time I was just useing the image as a mockup to proff the concept. The huge guns are part of the HISS tank for example, so I left them on it.

:)

Putting Draw Their Fire on one or two of the ps5 Scyks, and giving a couple of the ps2 guys some cheap cannons should help keep Serissu alive long enough for her to pay off.

Working under an assumption that the Cartel Scyks are 13 points...

The cheapest generic will likely be around 13-14p, with HLC that would be 22-23 each, so you would have 4 ships with 3hp which you want to fly in formation....

What would you do if it were 15 points instead?

When talking about scyks as a swarm ship in the TC gencon interview, Alex Davy refers to the lowest ps one as a black squadron pilot style ship. So I think that means either it's 14 points, or it has an EPT (not likely on the base version).

I would swiftly and assertively turn my head back towards my A-wings.

If they are 13 points, and you can get a HLC on the field for 22 points, then just for the sheer hell of it ive gotta try a 4 ship HLC Swarm with the obligatory Headhunter flying support.

That should be able to do more than enough damage in the initial turns to blunt the counter attack.

If the flachette cannon is indeed stress-inflicting and around 3 points I'd expect ~30 point dual tactition, flachette cannon shuttles to be popping up literally everywhere. Inflicting 3 stress on a ship in one round could be game winning in its own right

I'm looking forward to running teams of 2 Scyks, one with Ion cannon, the other with Flechette cannon (around 36-39 points I'm thinking).
