Where's the BTL-A4 discussion?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

I wanted to discuss the merits of the BTL-A4, but I can't find the thread. Seriously, what's up with search? Is there another, forum-specific box I should use rather than the one right at the top of the site?

Anyway, how much is BTL-A4 really worth? Is a free 2 dice attack really that great (and often with no tokens, and sacrificing your 360 degree attack)?

It's down just a few posts from this... utilize your mark 1 eyeball... you'll find it

And my two cents from that thread:

Two attacks seems nice, but I'm thinking in with the guys who don't like it much. As a similar comparison, look at Cluster Missiles vs Proton Rockets. Five dice once does way more average damage than three dice twice, especially against high agility targets, compounded by the fact that it's difficult to have tokens to modify both or even one of the cluster missile attacks.

Your options with A4 all are seemingly worse than cluster missiles. One two die primary attack followed by:

1. The most attractive option, an Ion Cannon. Possibly do a damage or two with your primary and follow it up with one more damage and an Ion token. But, two attacks without multiple tokens, particularly a weak attack like it's 2 die primary, likely will not both hit. Consider the lack of EPTs on Y wings except for Kavil, on whom the A4 is a waste. Rebels can take R2-D6 for Push but then, you can't take R2 astromech to alleviate that stress. Best option here is Drea Renthal with Unhinged Astromech.
2. The Blaster Turret. Gives your second attack three dice. But you have to have a focus to activate it, which you couldn't have spent to improve your weak primary attack. Again, more actions needed. The new R4Agromech is there for Scum, which gives you a target lock after sending the focus to activate the turret. Now, with the ability to make Blaster Turret not so terrible, I'd rather keep the turret, particularly with Kavil.
3. Autoblaster Turret. Cheap, efficient. But, Range 1 only. Slap this on Kavil, also, or even on Dutch, so you can have a cheap support ship with some close Range protection. Problem with A4, Range 1.

Maybe A4 is sound in principle, but none of the upgrades that can be equipped with it synergize particularly well. It should have been any secondary weapon. Fire off a flechette after your primary, or let Horton wreck face with a torpedo after a primary.

It's in the thread titled BTL-A4 about 15 posts down the page?

I swear that wasn't there when I looked!

It's actually the thread directly below this one... No! Wait! Doh!

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE!

Well, we might as well do something with this thread.

So, who thinks it's unfair when office dress codes allow women to wear skirts but don't allow men to wear shorts?

Or kilts....

Bloody tell me about it. When i was high school teacher i had to wear a suit and a tie every day, even in the hottest summers (could take the jacket off obviously) but female staff could wear ridiculously flimsy dresses or cullottes and t-shirts.

I never tried wearing my kilt but then again, unless it was pretty chilly i wouldnt want to... bloody warm things kilts.

Urgh I used to work in a stockroom and at the height of summer it was between 28-30 Celsius, I was allowed a short sleeved shirt but had to wear full trousers and shoes it just wasn't comfortable at all but we aren't allowed to show off our hairy legs so in protest I walked around with my hairy chest on display instead.

Of course, when it's chilly you've got a reason NOT to wear a kilt...

If the dress code excludes shorts, are men allowed to wear skirts? I wouldn't have thought they were allowed to have separate dress codes these days.

At GWHQ we had an 'open dress code'.

My mate at the time Ian Pickstock was 'losing it a bit' to put it mildly and tried to see how open it was by turning up to work with blue hair, a grey skirt and an orange bodywarmer that looked like a life jacket!

He was told to go home and change but he insisted it was either 'wear what you want or its not' and he wasnt causing any one offence. They let him stay but i think it was career suicide at the time

Honestly is its chilly a kilt is fantastic. Its 15 foot of wool wrapped around you up to under your ribs... dead warm, one of the reasons you dont need or wear underwear with them.

I've worn one in summer though at an 'early war' wwil battle re-enactment and while they protect your thighs from the wood and brush and nettles your knees get hammered! You also sweat like hell.

I blame Final Fantasy for this, and don't tell my family, but I can't help but picture anyone who's wearing a kilt as a dwarf. Saying "Rally Ho".

Haha.. I've worn a kilt in cold weather.. haha and was glad for it..
