Wave 2 speculation

By dpb1298, in Star Wars: Armada

Every possible combination of capital ships has been brought up for Wave 2.

That being said, I pray for Fantasy Flights sake that they double their efforts and have the Imperial Star Destroyer fully operational by Wave 2 ...

The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am.

I'd love to see them make a Rebel version of the core set with a MC40a Mon Cal light cruiser, perfect match for a Victory Star Destroyer. They could pack in a Carrack Cruiser and a Lancer frigate for Imperials with it.

I'll take anything though to be honest. It may sound silly, but hell I want these more just to have models of the Star Wars capital ships to display than to play the game with lol.

Mc40a is lighter armed than a Glatiator! Holy crap! Like the design though. Where did that 600 meters of internal space go to?

Also, I want the Strike Class cruiser just so it could have this special rule: whenever it is dealt an uncanceled critical result, turn a face down damage card face up and resolve it immediatly.

Fits the lore perfectly! And it can be cheap as all getout with decent stats, due to that draw back.

Mon Cal ships aren't built as warships...they are refitted liners mostly. So the internal space is probably very inefficient compared to a dedicated, keel-up warship, though Mon Cal design/contrcution expertise actually got them almost on par.

When they actually started building dedicated warships (like the MC80b), they were brutal!

The one thing Mon Cal cruiser did excel at is shields, they have crazy heavy shielding compared to most Imperial cap ships. I wonder if they will put in an ability or however they would work it for the fake/false blisters the rebels used on the mon cal ships to blow up swarms of TIEs that got too close to the cruisers. And if they go by the old X-Wing and TIE Fighter games they had warhead launchers, which I hated in TIE Fighter. Those were more a danger than the ship's laser batteries.

Hopefully we'll also see a Dreadnaught at some point. Would be an ideal ship to make both Imperial and Rebel. Of course they could of done that with the Neb-B...

MonCalamari ship race trait: ignore crits! Horray for complex ship layouts and redundant systems and repair crews nightmares!

The only ship I can think of off hand the Empire has that comes close to the complex and redundant construction of the Mon Cal cruisers is the Carrack Cruiser. That is also another ship that isn't Empire only. Will be interesting to see if FFG does other factions.

Everything from the Corporate Sector to the Hapens to Black Sun and even whats his name from Forces of Corruption.

I find it funny how opposite the strike and the carrack are.

I loved using Striker cruisers in Rebellion years and years ago. I'd form them up into squadrons and they would be my sector defense groups since they had such a fast hyperdrive. I would back them up with an escort carrier. Saved my ISD's and VSDs for front line service. Some good memories.

Now there is something that'll make Armada battles interesting, if FFG adds in the Imperial and Rebel escort carriers.

I do much the same when I play as the Empire though I usually throw a copule of lancers in, and usually send a lancer an escort carrier and two Strikes as a raiding group when I need one. For my more commonly used Rebel defense or raider groups I use Liberators, Neb-B, DP20 Gunships, and sometimes a copule of CC-9600s

I'm hoping all of the capital ships from Rebellion and Empire at War appear n Armada, and the rpg

Well, we already got the puffer fish version of the assault Frigate from EoW. Not a fan of the design, looks like a blimp. I might put shark teeth on mine when I get the model, just to be different.

as I've been saying to others I don't think FFG is going to pass up doing Star Destroyers for much longer. The game needs them to be as Iconic as the X-Wing is to, well, X-Wing. But I think the logic of not putting them in wave 1 is to present other ships as the mainstays of the fleet before moving on to the heavies. Honestly apart from an epic mode, I wouldn't expect to see starships heavier than the Imperial on the table.

If its a 2 and 2 wave, we might not see the ISD until wave 3. I still feel like adding a ISD on top of the victory would be a mistake.

How long have you been a card carrying member of the Rebel Alliance?

If its a 3&3 wave or a 3&2 wave favoring the imperials, then probably. But if its a 2&2 wave... we might see more light ships to flesh out the ranks with plenty of spoilers in card art to keep people drooling while they flex the rules and perfect the ISD. Or it could be a stand alone release in between waves 2 and 3 and then promise a MC80 liberty but never deliver (imperial huge ships wink wink nudge nudge).

That's just my personal feels and gut instinct.

I am excited about a range of possibilities... First, I would love to see a group of smaller ships such as the Falcon, Imperial Shuttle and Slave I mounted on squadron bases as single ships. Which has been mentioned... I am just saying that I agree.

Second, I am really hoping to see the Braha'tok-class gunship, also known as the Dornean gunship its a completely cannon ship, its small but tough. I have never seen a miniature of this ship and think it would be a nice escort ship. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Braha%27tok-class_gunship

Finally I want to see the Imperial Star Destroyer and the MC-80 cruiser. However if these ships are not at least 3 inches longer than the Victory (assuming a Victory of 4 to 4.5 inches) I will not buy them... I'll find a suitable model elsewhere before I field ridiculously small Star Destroyers and Mon Cal Cruisers.

I am really hoping they do these ships justice.

The Dornean navy was supposedly so well disciplined and maintained that they managed to keep their system independent from The Empire's rule.

What a load of made up traitorous Rebel Bantha poodoo.

I am also thinking that the Imperial version and civilian version of the Gozanti Cruiser would be cool!

The Gozanti is so tiny, I doubt we'll see it. Bear in mind it's less than a third of the size of the CR-90!

It could be a fighter squadron!

Haha, true! That'd be about the only option really.

I want to see the lambda or some other large ship. You could have 2 of them on a stand, one lower and in front of the 2nd one. The stand would be shaped like a T with side taller than the other.

And you could do the same thing with the freighters and have a convoy that the empire ambushes, but then it was a double trap and rebel forces drop out of hyperspace and ambush the ambushers! (But the victory star destroyer still wins :D )

I like it. Multiple ships on bases for stuff like convoys etc is something i was already thinking of and is on my "Possible scrapbuild" list, though I was planning on ones a bit bigger.

I like the Idea of a Gozanti on a squadron stand flanked by 2 Tie fighters... That would be very cool :D

Actually that is a good idea!

I have been thinking about the squadron based small ships some more and came up with, what I think, is a cool idea.

You could have a ship like the Falcon represented by a single YT-1300 on a squadron base with cards for both the falcon and a standard freighter. In an expansion pack you could have the Falcon and an X-Wing on a single squadron base representing Lando flying the Falcon with Wedge as his wing man.

You could do the same thing with an Imperial Shuttle... Releasing one on a base by itself representing a standard shuttle. and another on a base flanked by 2 Tie Fighters with cards for the Emperors shuttle crew and Tie escort and Darth Vader's Crew and Tie escort.

I think this could work well, especially for mission related scenarios.
