Wave 2 speculation

While those are excellent possibilities, the ship just seems OP as all get out to me. With its stats and capabilities they'd be an absolute Hit-and-Run monster. They'd practically be able to raid shipyards and supply depots with impunity. They're fast, well shielded, and hit far above their weight class. I can easily picture two or three dropping out of hyperspace in orbit of an Imperial repair facility, brushing past patrol ships and fighters with their shields, dumping several salvos into disabled ships and whatnot, and leaving before any kind of effective response could be mounted.
While perfectly keeping in line with Rebel tactics, i just feel like they'd be too strong. Ships of this power level would cause a serious and immediate overhaul of the Imperial battle plan as soon as they arrived on the scene.

I think the second wave will fill out the light and medium roles. Dreagnought, Strike, Lancer, Carrack... these are good ships for these. We've already got the lighter Star Destroyers, so there's no need for the pseudo-SD that is the Vindicator, unless you strap grav bulges and make it an Interdictor cruiser.

For the Rebels, I don't know. They use a lot of the same ships as the Imperials, so I'd really like to see Rebel versions of the Nebulon-B, as well as Dreadnoughts and Strikes.

The Rebels are getting the Neb-B with the first wave, its part of their force in the starter pack why would they get it again in wav 2?

I imagine that the MC80 and Imperial class will be in Wave . The Rebels will probably get more ships in the mid-range and smaller heavies while the Imperials will get more smaller craft.

We're not really sure if there were enough to be worth overhauling the Imperial battle plan and I think the hit with Impunity part is a slight exaggeration. Put one toe to toe with a heavy cruiser or Star Destroyer and they will probably be in very deep trouble.

Hells, I meant Imperial Nebulon B. No reason for a primarily Imperial ship to be available only to Rebels.

That would be nice. I would love to to see Imperial Neb-Bs. Of course I would also love to see the Neb-B2s appear in Armada and the RPG. I've never understood why the Assassin class Corvette, which first appeared in TIE Fighter as did the Neb-B2, appeared in both the WOTC and FFG RPGs but the Neb-B2 didn't, or at least hasn't so far..

For Imps: Carrick Class Light Cruiser or a Lancer Frigate. For Fighters: either Defender or Assault Gunboat.

For Rebels: DP20 (also known as Corellian Gunship or a Bulwark battle cruiser. - Fighters: Either a E-wing or maybe Z95.

From the old "Rebellion (to control a world - to command a galaxy" 1998 game; the empire ships included:

-Star Galleon

-Carrack Light Cruiser

-Imperial Star Destroyer

-Imperial Dreadnaught

-Imperial Escort Carrier

-Galleon

-Lancer Frigate

-Strike Cruiser

-Assault Transport

-Interdictor Cruiser

und -Victory Star Destroyer

All I want is a Imperial Class Star Destroyer!

I'd like a few of the Mon Cal ships, but on the rebel side I am actually looking forward to an all Corvette fleet. I am going to make it work!

It would be kinda funny if the Rebels get repainted Seperatist cap ships in an expansion for this game.

That would be nice and certainly fits with the Legends material, plus make sense in setting IMO. Using salvaged warships or ships that were either hidden away when the CIS fell or even CIS ships that made their way onto the Black Market or whose crews eventually join <insert Resistance group> here makes perfect sense for the Alliance.

I share your views Conundrum, but to be fair those ships first came out in West End Games The Imperial Sourcebook [Oct/1989, WEG40006, 0-87431-135-7 ] and the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook [1989] nearly a decade previously.

Old School Credit where Old School Credit is due my friend.

Yeah the only ships I know of from Rebellion which first appeared there were Alliance Ships. The Dauntless class and Liberator class Cruisers and the CC-7700 class and CC-9600 class Frigates none of which have appeared in any non-PC games or any non-Rebellion games yet though I hope FFG will change that.

Edit: I can't believe I forgot the Bulwark, technically the Bulwark III

I'm actually curious to see if they'll release the GR-75 Medium Transport at some point. I'm aware they aren't really intended for battle but they even appeared at Endor for crying out loud. It could be designed as a ship with minimal dice to throw, but still capable of trading some blows and backing up the more direct combat oriented ships with some starfighter command and other support abilities.

I'm certain the Alliance retrofitted at least a few GR-75s as pocket carriers. And I would be utterly shocked if the Alliance never modded any GR-75s into light warships

now I know they probably wont make this untill after the ISD but i haven't even see anyone mention this.

I mean lets face it we all want to see "Home One"

or maybe the death star,

JOKES!! it is way to big, but i will bet on a mission or 2 involving the death star

Or indeed any Mon Cal ship, I love their designs, very organic looking and interesting. And powerful in their own right, of course.

Given FFG's focus on heroes and their abilities I wouldnt be surprised to see a mini falcon turn up - squadron size but only the single ship on the stand with a range of annoying abilities, similarly for iconic characters like Boba Fett - a Heroes and Rogues expansion anyone?

I'm not wading through this whole thread, but in case this has not yet been mentioned a Lancer frigate would be dandy for this game, with its pronounced starfighter presence.

Lambda Class Shuttles anybody? ^^

You know, i was about to say "light freighters," but then I got to thinking...

No. Stupid. Fighters have power only because they come in squadrons; Lambdas and the Millenium Falcon come alone. And by themselves, they'd have negligible power. Really, this just isn't the game for them.

Dunno about what Wave which will come in, but i expect to see the following within a few waves. Even wqith possible counterparts :)

Imperial-class MC80 Cruiser

Lancer Quasar Fire (Flurry)

Dreadnought (my personal wish) Assault Frigate Mk1

Carrack MC30

Strike Cruiser Neutron Star - bulk cruiser

Assassin Corvette DP20 Corellian Gunship

Interdictor/Vindicator MC40a

Wishlisting, but nothing seems too unlikely eventually there.

Do we need to get a betting pool going, kind of like the game we've got going in the latter-day pages of the Imperial Huge-ship speculation thread in X-Wing about when the huge ship announcement is going to come?

Whoever guesses right gets buku bragging rights of being the FFG astrologer.

I have to disagree somewhat - given the very tanky stats of the falcon in X-wing it is easily the equal of a small squad of rookie TIE fighters, so coupled with some suitably heroic abilities the falcon as a stand alone fighter base piece could be really cool! (Something like, you may move in both the special and regular squadron activation phases instead of shooting and gain one free defense ability use, or something..)

Shuttles and freighters would make excellent objective pieces, not for their own combat ability, but for giving the warships something to either try and protect, capture or destroy.

I believe that just blasting an enemy fleet will only amuse for so long - what the game needs to plan to include is as much scenario depth as possible, and smaller civillian ships should be a key part of that as they are a bit part of the Star Wars universe :)
