Resolving Issues

By Japles, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I have question on how do other groups resolve any issues or rule conflicts that arise while playing your campaign?

I am recently new to the game only have done two campaigns. No expansions yet. But issues and conflicts have come about with cards and rules and terminology. I started playing as Overlord on the 1st campaign and alot of issues that arise seem to be one sided. They either help the heros or the overlord. The heros stick together to get the rule they want by poplar vote. They didnt always seem fair for better gameplay. Now that we have finished the 2nd campaign alot of the same rules were quested again because it was a different overlord and those rules werent fair anymore.

We look into the forums but if heros dont agree they are no help.

Any suggestion on how to resolve issues for better gameplay with everyone and keep consistent rules?

I find it helps to try to anticipate/discus rule conflicts ahead of time, if possible. Unfortunately, most people tend to be more reasonable outside of the game. Also, it helps to rotate who plays overlord between campaign- its easier to see both sides when you've been on both sides.

In my particular group, I'm the most familiar with the rules- we all make a good faith agreement to do our best to interpret rules objectively- sometimes, as the OL, this means siding with the heroes on a rule issue, or likewise. Ganging up on the OL is easy to do, so if you find yourself in this position, the best you can do otherwise is to know you stuff solidly.

I do believe knowing the rules would greatly help and having a proper understanding of words and phrasing will help. It make just take a few times to get there but I do hope that as others play as overlord maybe they will realize not to go one side with issues. I still think the game is great. But its also the people you play with that can make the experience better.

The other thing to do is get the FAQ and read it and have it available to all players as some of the questions and debates can be skipped entirely with a definitive answer from the developers (+ all the amendments and quest changes help balance a fai bit)
