Keyan + ptl and HLC...am i doing it right.

By Gadge, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, as part of a squadron im flying Keyan in his B wing with a HLC and 'push the limit' as his EPT.

So i can move, ptl for two actions and deliberately stress myself as i target lock and focus...

then i shoot at my target and imediately remove that stress to 'convert eyes' (even if there were no eyes to convert') to hits. thats ok yeah?

Likewise i could stress myself, shoot, potentialy miss and reroll all dice with the TL? *then* destress with his ability to convert eyes as above.

As long as as a dice isnt rerolled twice or adjusted twice thats right yeah?

edit: what i mean is it just seems massively lethal at the mo and im convinced i must have something wrong as at the moment its crazy not to keep him stressed by PTLing every time.

Generally right on all counts.

Only thing I see off is that you can actually "adjust" a die twice. Dice can't be rerolled twice, but changing it twice through other means is perfectly fine. So you can, for example, use a focus to change an eyeball to a hit, and then a Mercenary Copilot or Etahn can change that hit to a crit.

Nice one cheers, it was just so effective and shredding my mates force that i was convinced something was horribly wrong :)

Farlander (and Rebel Aces generally) seems to be the leading edge of FFG deciding (realizing is probably a better word here) that unique pilots were rarely worth their cost, and turning the abilities up to 11 to try and fix that, and Keyan's the shining star of the first crop. Remains to be seen if they overshot, but he is certainly impressive.

Tell me about it i lost a dagger squadron last week and totally anihilated four imperial named pilots with Keyan pretty much on his own once nera had got off her ordnance.

And the dagger was a deliberate sacrifice to give Keyan the distance to keep pumping rerolled 4 red dice shots in.

I tried Keyan out when his card was first released, but I played the destressing-focus change as only if I had actually rolled some focus results, and it made him somewhat trickier to fly. The clarification of how he spends his stress token, has definitely upped his potential.

Yeah its just unbelievaby good. rebel aces has changed my game immensely.

I aced echo and tur phennir and teran cornel quite quickly with 4 a wings today.

Lots of cheap a wings with PTL and spreading those arcs.

Wouldn't waste one of those actions by focusing, since you're guaranteed a stress with PtL. Focus becomes redundant. Not necessarily a bad thing, but with only 1-2 defense dice to use it on? Meh

I like to play him with UE on the top to allow extra maneuvrability, the possibility to barrel roll and boost is maybe even more useful for an unwieldy B-wing than those extra agile squints.

I think the bigger advantage is continuously making red maneuvers.

As long as he gets to shoot he can make kTurns and hard 1 turns indefinitely.

I also think he will be a prime candidate for Stay on Target, just program 2 speed moves every turn and change it to whatever gives you a shot.

Yeh im thinking SOT will replace PTL for him.

Players that like to heap the stress on you, will find Keyan to be the bane of their life.
