Missed opportunity.

By BDub, in X-Wing

I really dig the new bomb loadout card that comes with S&V Ys, however, I think making the card a Y-Wing Only card was a missed opportunity to correct for the egregious ;) injustice that is Imp Bombers only getting one bomb slot.

Though I understand not wanting to let every ship with Torps get a bomb (and I agree with that call) It would have been nice to add the IMP Bomber onto this new card. As it is, The only real "Bomber" in the game can sadly only have one bomb.

Peace.

Or, they might wind up making something better for the Bomber.

Don't worry. I'm sure the Imperial Aces II will boost the TIE Advanced and TIE Bomber.

I don't see the problem. The upgrade is limited so can't be taken twice. This way, each faction have their bomber ship.

I'd love just to see some bomber related scenarios.

Again, my wish for a scenario pack. Perhaps one that involves waves of bombers attacking rebel transports guarded by corvettes?

as i said in another thread, i feel both the Y wing and the Bomber dont really get to fulfil heir niche in 100 point dogfights

Do you really find you need more bombs?

I love the TIE Bomber and the ordnance I use the least is bombs.

Honestly in space bombs are called missiles.

Where did this assumption come from that FFG is releasing any Aces II anything?

Fine where's our Imperial Ion Turret ship then?

It's docked right next to the Rebel ship with a cloaking device.

How can you tell though when the ship is cloaked?

Yup, my winging about bomb slots going to rebs disappeared before it could happen, as cloaking is a far better faction perk. Bombs slotted up crappily with Astromechs anyway, I'll take the joy of zipping about with a Phantom over them any day, anyway.

Left it on by accident, could not find my car when I was done shopping at the mall, battery went dead.

Because it was in a different parking stall after it decloaked.

The Y-Wing is a bomber ship, so it makes sense that it can carry bombs. Bring a chassis in the Imperial navy that can equip a turret and I won't have a problem with it either, just like now the Empire also has their 360 primary attack ship with the Decimator.

Have a tie bomber only upgrade that makes the proton bomb only 2 points. But you know then we would have to listen to the rebels that we are so overpowered.....Truly a catch 22.

Sorry i missed it, i was to busy looking that the 4th Rebel ship with a turret.

It is clearly not "just one bomb", any more than 4 points of Proton Torpedoes represents just one torpedo. With disposable ordnance, it seems pretty obvious to me that each card represents a "salvo" of 'X' number of Torps/Missiles. Since space is what scientists refer to as... "very, very BIG"... it seems (again) to me that a single Seismic Charge/Proton Bomb/Whatever would have a very low chance of hitting/damaging anything. A group of mines/salvo of bombs, however would greatly increase those odds.

Anyway, it is not specifically stated anywhere by FFG, that the above is true, but that is how I justify it.

Oh, yeah... and "game balance"...

What makes it weird is instead of being 2 stalls over it was parked half 1 and a half stalls over and forward, and cockeyed, good thing I could hear the Echo in the ramp

It must be that danged Rebel Captive again, messing with the controls. I swear. He stresses me out way too much.

Gotta keep those animals under control.

Except missiles are self propelled, bombs are not. Quite different. Thats like saying, in naval combat, mines are torpedoes.

I could maybe foresee a chardeen refit version for the bomber but instead of a missile slot it would be the bomb slot.

To be fair, I believe the current mines used by the US actually are the same torpedoes as they drop from things like ASW choppers and P-3 Orion ASW aircraft, that sit at a predetermined depth and then when a sensor detects a ship it moves to engage

To be correct on the "mine/torpedo" issue, torpedoes have a propulsion system, mines are static and don't move (unless free floating and then they drift with the currents). And the torpedoes dropped by ASW helo's and P-3s don't "sit and wait". The aircraft already have the target located through sonabouys (sp?) before they drop the ordnance. The sonabouys are what sit in the water and generate a sonar signal to ping the sub - or listen for it's noise - allowing the torpedo to home in on the target.

This service announcement brought to you by a former US Navy sailor. ;)

@ Gadge - I'm with you, something like the A-Wing refit for the TIE bomber allowing it to carry a second bomb would be neat.

Whatever happened to all those Imperial astromechs that were supposed to keep our ships maintained, anyway?
