So I went to a small monthly store tournament that our local game store (Huzzah Games) puts on free of charge every month.
There were eight people who showed up so we went 3 rounds of Swiss.
I played
Han Solo, Gunner, C-3PO, Millennium Falcon, Veteran Instincts
Etahn A'baht, Sensor Jammer, PtL, Engine Upgrade.
Never played Fat Han before (and never will again as it's sooooo boring), so I wanted to try him out. I went with Etahn as I love E-wings and his ability had nice synergy with Han.
Game 1 I played against
Kath Scarlett, Gunner
3 x Academy Tie Fighter
Howlrunner, Swarm Tactics
The game started cautiously with us both looking to see what the other would do. Early shooting was uneventful apart from the fact Sensor Jammer proved to be invaluable against the Ties stopping 7+ hits over the course of the game.
We were both evenly matched as we entered the last two turns with just one Academy Pilot killed, Etahn and Han were both shieldless and his ships were all damaged.
In the last two turns I finished Howlrunner and both the other Academies for no losses and so took the win.
Both sides had poor luck with dice, but in the end 3PO and the sensor Jammer just stopped so much damage that my terrible red dice made less difference.
MvP: Sensor Jammer.
Game 2
was almost the same list, but Kath had been replaced by Whisper with who had Gunner, VI, ACD and FCS.
Again, Sensor Jammer came into its own as did 3PO. Whisper got caught with ACD down twice in a row by Han and was the first to go. After that it was really just clean up and I won with no loss of ships.
A mention of Etahn's ability is due here as in both games, flipping hits to crits caused serious issues for my opponent.
Game 3
I was now going up against a great guy who flies 4 B-wings with FCS and had given one of them Jan Ors as a copilot. My opponent knows his list very well and has flown it a lot and it is about the worst match up (outside a swarm) for the list I was flying.
The game was awesome, but I must confess I messed up a few times early in the game. I forgot to use sensor Jammer on Etahn, which would have saved him and allowed him another round, which would have certainly gained me a kill on a B-wing which would have left me another kill with Han.
I also forgot to use 3PO twice in a row. I guess I was just to focused on my opponents list and not my own.
In the end, I think the result would have been the same, with me losing, but I think 3 of the B's may have died rather than 1 and 2 with severe damage.
On such things do games turn.
Full kudos to my opponent though, who flew his B's brilliantly and didn't allow me any respite from the onslaught.
In the end, this put me in second and I collected a nice Boba Fett dice bag for my troubles.
A fun day, three great guys to play against and a nice prize.
