Invent our Own Illicit Upgrades - Have fun!

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

We have seen threads with new pilots and the person below rating them. How about we do this for Illicit Upgrades. These are upgrades which break the rules and are usually from the black market

here is my first one:

Illicit

Enhanced Ion Generator

2 pts

When attacking with an Ion Cannon, may change 1 blank result to a focus result

Let's see what we can come up with?

Don't forget to rate the upgrade from the person ahead of you.

Overcharged engine- requires engine upgrade or ship that can boost. 3 points

May make a second boost in the end phase. After doing this must roll an attack die. On a Crit result the ship gains a face up damage card.

Nice. But you also have to rate the person before you on their upgrade

I like it, but I would make it 4 pts, since critical hits are not rolled very often, or use 2 attack dice and make it a 2.

Illicit

Proton Vacuum Sucker

3 pt

At the start of the combat phase, you may steal a focus or an evade token from a ship in range 1-2.

Shield Supercharger

Requires shields

3 points

When you lose your last shield point, discard this card and roll an attack die. On a hit result, refresh your shields to full. On a crit result, gain one shield point and deal yourself a single face-up damage card.

Nice. But you also have to rate the person before you on their upgrade

I like it, but I would make it 4 pts, since critical hits are not rolled very often, or use 2 attack dice and make it a 2.

That wasn't specified. Yeah let's increase it to 4 points, and make it so only hits do the face up damage card. BUT unless it's engine it can be flipped back face down.

The ion upgrade isn't a bad idea, but do ions need upgrading? They are hateful enough.

Maybe have an ion upgrade that causes a second damage or ion token to be in effect with more than one uncancelled hits?

Assassin Droid. 7 points.

Special: not assigned a ship.

Discard this card to remove a crew card from an opponents ship, additionally roll 1 attack die and resolve the results, negating all shield tokens.

I like it 4 pts to boost a second time. Roll 1 Attack Die if a hit result gain a Face up damage card. If an engine result, suffer the effects of the card, otherwise flip the card face down.

Space Dust

2 points

Action: Choose one enemy ship in range 1. The pilot of this ship is blinded. Discard this card after use.

Possibly keep the effect if it's pilot as well. Because Gforces.

Hire Boba Fett

39 points

Action: Boba Fett enters the battlefield via an opponent entry zone. Discard this card after use.

Glitterstim drugs:

1 point

Discard this card during the planning phase to increase your PS by 3 until the end phase of that turn. After the end phase of that turn, decrease your pilot skill by 2, to a minimum of 1.

Example: N'Dru Suhlak, uses glitterstim:

N'dru starts at PS7. In the turn he discards the glitterstim upgrade, he is PS10. In subsequent turns he is PS5.

Shield Supercharger

Requires shields

3 points

When you lose your last shield point, discard this card and roll an attack die. On a hit result, refresh your shields to full. On a crit result, gain one shield point and deal yourself a single face-up damage card.

Is this once per game, I would make this once per game and instead of fully recharging shields, how about adding a max of +2 shields. This IMO is less game destroying.

Warp dust Spice.

3 points.

Remove all stress tokens, for each token removed gain a tracking token on your card

Next turn, for each tracking token roll an attack die. On a hit, add one stress, on a crit add 2 stress. Discard this card after use.

Seems fair at 3 pts, though the wording might need a bit of work. Tracking token would be something entirely new.

Ion field generator.

Action: Add an ion token to this ship and all other ships at range 1.

4 Pts

I like this one. But seems kind of broken that it can be used more than once. You essentially can put it on a cheap ship and throw it into the enemies formation. Maybe have it as a discard for 3 points. As is, it would be very powerful on a large based ship.

Mercenary Reinforcements. 4 points. Unique (complete guess on cost)

You do not have to deploy this ship during the deployment phase. Instead you may deploy this ship during any future end phase. This ship must be deployed within range 1 of your deployment zone.

4 Pts

Ion bomb, I like it.

Is this too much like the feed back array card?

Graviton emitter

Action: Range 1 - 2

Decrease or increase the number displayed by 1 on a ship's dial.

If it becomes a maneuver not on the dial it receives a stress at end of turn and receives a damage card.

Then this ship receives a damage card.

2 Pts

Edited by Ryther

Wow! Seems very powerful for just 2 points. Your changing their move and causing damage and giving a stress.

How about this:

Black Market Cloaking Device:

2 pts

Small base ships only

One per game. Action: Your ship may use the cloak action, but must decloak the following turn.

Edited by eagletsi111

That's pretty cool. I wonder though if it should have another restriction, just so cloaking wouldnt become too common a thing, knocking phantom's niche out. I suppose a single turn of the game makes it pretty restrictive though, so maybe it wouldn't need anything else. I love the thought of a formation of headhunters all disappearing into the black then explosively appearing again to engage. More of a giant ambush brawl than the silent assassins that phantoms are.

Bounty Database

When attacking, if the defender is target-locked by another friendly ship, roll 1 additional die.

Nice! I would probably change the name to something else to represent the fact that they all could use it, but other than that I like it. Maybe linked computers or something.

How about this one:

Computer Hacking System

4 Pts.

You may choose to gain a lock-on on any ship which locks onto you. (Even if you don't have the lock on ability).

There is a computer slicing mechanic with huge ships and slicing tools (slicing is SW's hacking) also, i am fairly sure a few pilots can do this already...

Modification

Hyperdrive

5 Pts

Ship equipped must be part of the squad build.

You may have 1 ship appear within a full range ruler of the edge.
