New Huge Scale Model for the Misbehavin' Kind

By Snickett, in X-Wing

Want to represent the pseudo-Legends canon Firefly Class? (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Firefly-class_mid-bulk_transport)

From the Firefly Yahtzee set.

Model is about 9.5 inches long. If a Firefly class is 63 meters long, this translates to 1/261 scale, so actually pretty close to the desired 1/270:

Maybe could be used as a Huge ship for the Scum & Villainy faction?

That...

Despite being a fairly lovely model for a firefly it manages to make me sad for two reasons

1) I really dont want to scale it next to a medium transport because despite everything i rather like the medium transport model

2) Is that not one of the more tenuous tie ins for a game that anyone here has seen for a while? I'm unlikely to suggest my opponent will go to a special circle of hell just because they scored Yahtzee in the first few turns or that something is especially shiny when a desperate shot to nothing comes up.

I aim to misbehave (by re-rolling 4 dice rather than just 2...)

I actually really like that. I'd love some homebrew rules, its perhaps a little *big* given huge ships are scaled differently but probably like you say not far off at small ship scale.

Are those mould lines on the red rear ring... if so those are pretty rough and i'd probably file them and repaint.

Actually, it's a Yahtzee cup. The whole thing is hollow on the inside. You take off the butt partitioned aft section, load up your Yahtzee dice, then roll accordingly. I'll probably never use it for that purpose, given than Yahtzee is a terrible game.

The model is made from the softer vinyl plastic, but the whole thing is so big there really isn't any flexible parts except for the slotted landing gear.

That's the coolest Yahtzee cup I've ever seen. I had no idea they made that.

I love Firefly as much as the next guy. (A lot more that that guy over there, not the next guy, but the guy after that. Ya, you, you know who I am talking about)

But Serenity is a decidedly non-military craft. It has no weapons. On top of that it is barely holding itself together. With the exception of "cry babies" it barely has enough systems to keep itself running and the people inside alive. Even with Jane wrapping a evo-suit around his favorite gun I just don't see it participating in Star Wars level military conflicts and surviving.

Frankly a Pirate in a Z-95 has Serenity beat in a space battle.

How powerful I find a ship isn't really a measure of how much I like the show it comes from.

ummm.. wrong 'Verse.....

Is it wrong of me to really not like the design of the Firefly class even though i love the show? That is a cool Yahtzee cup though.

Dragging this up again to say I LOVE this. You don't mind if I steal this idea, do you?

Good, because I already have.

At right around 9.5" long, I figure it works great as a stand in for the rebel transport, since they are both unarmed cargo vessels. Here is a comparison shot

Yes, the Rebel Transport is at a different scale, but to me that just makes the firefly a better option since it is more or less in scale with all the other ships.

So, since I am planning to use it as a GR-75, I am going to need a base and stand for it, so I made one. Base is magnetic so I can take the ship on and off. Photoshopped the Transport base insert so it all looks right and proper

Even did up the ship card

and a storage box that will hold the ship and base together

I did, unfortunately, screw up the base. I forgot to include a notch on either side where the epic maneuver template needs to go. So right now the ship can't turn. I'm going to have to run off another, corrected, base to fix that.

Other than that though, I am really happy with this. I'm amazed at how good of a model this is for something so ridiculously cheesy as a licensed, themed Yahtzee set. So, thanks to Snickett for pointing this out.

... i... thought this was an advertisement for other forms of pleasure.

****!

I wish i had known about that firefly yahtzee set. I would have picked up one just for the ship/cup then thrown out the cup rest.

Id rather play tiddly winks, at least there is some skill involved lol :-P

Still can get one, I imagine. I got mine from cool stuff inc only a week or two ago. And yeah, everything else in the box went right I to the trash.

Ummm if the HWK is a transport, wtf is it transporting? a candy bar or 3?

While I agree that the 'official' size for the hwk is too small, what does that have to do with serenity and the rebel transport?

Edit: ah, the OP with the scale shot next to the hwk. Nevermind then.

It's not a f*ckin' transport! It's not too small! It's perfectly sized, because it's not a f*ckin' transport!

It's a courier vessel, that's all it is.

What the hell man???!!! Chill!

If you want it to be a courier vessel then have someone go and rewrite all the background for it because every source I have ever seen calls it a light freighter. And put it in another thread because it's waaay off topic for this one.

In Oklahoma they are on the shelf at Barnes and Noble. The one in Tulsa has 3 on the shelf as of 3:00 pm today.

My local game store has about a dozen. Its on my list, but not real high on the priority list unfortunately.
