Nationals List

Hey guys I've been throwing a few list ideas around for nationals in Canada this weekend. I was wondering if some of the brilliant minds on the site could help me out.

Dutch Vander - Ion Cannon Turret = 28

Garven Dries = 26

Lt. Blount - Assault Missile, Deadeye = 23

I have 23 points left over, Ive toyed around with running Arvel for pretty cool PS 6 ship list. I know I know, Arvel isn't competitive at all and even with a wing test pilot and Chardaan there isnt much going for him.

I could also throw tarn in for a stellar ps3 x wing for more damage on the initial pass. But let me know what you think I am looking at keeping the original three ships as close to that as possible.

Jake with Veteran Instincts? He can be quite the Phantom Hunter with his natural extra Boost/Barrel Roll. He also pairs really nicely with Garven to get triple actions.

I like Tarn, especially when you have Dutch there.

Take a look at the top 8 finishes of a close looking list like your own.
I would drop garven, he just does does not do it for me.

Example that keeps the feel of your list a bit the same and giving you minor tools to deal with phantoms:

Vander + Ion

Tarn + R7 astromech

Bount + assault missile (he does not need deadeye as much due to vander)

Blue + Advanced sensors

However you create your list, the ticket to winning is getting as much experience with it as possible. Gind out those games!

For any squad, you need to ask:

  1. How familiar are you with flying this squad?
  2. Which ships in the squad are tanks vs glass cannons?
  3. What is the main strength of the squad?
  4. Can you accomplish the same effect nearly as effectively with fewer points?
  5. What is the weakest link?
  6. How will it deal with the common squad archetypes? (Swarm, Fat Han, Phantom)

1) Only you can answer. :-)

2) Expect Garven to get attacked first, he is the glass cannon.

Dutch: tank

Blount (after alpha): neutral

Garven: glass cannon

3) Very strong action synergy. Dutch's Ion Cannon makes for good control, especially if he attacks with TL+F every round.

4) If Blount has F+TL, will he ever get 0 hits with his Assault Missile? Probably not. You will almost certainly be better off dropping deadeye and upgrading to Airen Cracken, but it costs 1 more point, so you would only have 22 points left. It makes your action economy better, which increases your core strength and redundancy.

5) After Blount fires his missiles and Garven is dead, you have no real damage output. Assault Missiles are a huge points dump if you are not fighting a swarm. Garven at 26 points is really a central part of this squad, for better or for worse.

6) With action economy and Assault Missiles you should be OK against a swarm. You will have a harder time against Fat Han because of the slight lack of firepower. And against a Phantom your only answer is Dutch, who is fairly easy to counter.
