So im trying to find any form of official document relating to the number of swiss rounds and elimination round that should be played depending on player numbers can anyone point to anything?

Don't know if there are any.

But unless you are running a championship bracket after the swiss (in which case -1 from these numbers) you will need

upto 8 = 3 rounds

9 - 16 = 4 rounds

17 - 32 = 5 rounds

33 - 64 = 6 rounds

65 - 128 = 7 rounds

129 - 256 = 8 rounds.

to have a definite winner.

Great thanks, Interesting that if you only play to the minimum rounds your are effectively playing single elimination all the way anyway as there's Such a small chance to make the top 4/8 if you lose a match (i.e 32 player event, after 3 rounds there will most likely be 4 players at 4-0 to play top 4 elimination rounds)

with 32, I'd reccomend a top 8 cut after 3 rounds. I'd do atleast 4 rounds if only top 4.
