Another awesome tournament run by the Master TO himself, Sean Dorcy, and his faithful sidekick, Aaron Dorcy. This will be the only tournament outside of the World Championships where both Paul Heaver and myself will be participating.
We had 20 players show up to the Four Plus game club in Omaha. I was running my TIE swarm of:
Howlrunner with Swarm tactics
Backstabber
Black with Draw Their Fire
Obsidian
X3 AP
It seemed there were a lot of Falcons and Rebel Swarms, and very few Phantoms there. I was flying the only Imperial Swarm that I saw.
My first game was against Jim Blakley flying his Rebel Swarm 2.0: Blue, Blue, Rookie, Bandit, Gold with Ion
We set up for the joust, me in the middle, and him on my far left. We got into range, and I burned down the Gold first in exchange for an AP, I believe. Next I focused down one of the Blues. My mixture of Pilot skills was troublesome for him because I had AP's that could block him and higher PS pilots that won't have moved yet in his way, so he was a bit stuck to try K-turning with me. It was a tight game, highlighted by him throwing lots of dice without modifiers and me rolling just enough evades to stay alive. It ended up going to time, and I don't remember the exact score, but I won by 32 points. 1-0
Next game was against klecser. He was flying Chewie with MF title and Jan Ors, Gold with Ion and R2 Astro, and Blue with FCS and HLC.
He did a great job of making me split my fire, and he one-shotted a TIE early with the HLC. Round 3 I managed to get my guns pointed at his B-wing and took it down, but not before it took out backstabber. He had gone fast and wide with chewie and his Gold, so I had to play a little catch-up trying to get shots on him. I managed to take chewie down in a few more turns, then had 4 vs a gold, so it didn't last long after that. He flew really well. It was a good game. 2-0
Then I faced CommanderScrappy, the guy I have played the most games against. He was flying his "Crit Happens" list of Wedge with Predator, Luke with Predator, and Etahn with predator. We had played a few weeks ago. I was flying an 8-TIE swarm at the time, but I managed to take him out with 5 ships left on the board. This time, though, it was not meant to be. He flew better, and I made a lot of mistakes. And Luke was impossible to take down. He wiped me with only losing Etahn fairly early. 2-1
Then I faced Dave Duncan. He flew an ORS, Bandit, bandit, Blue with FCS, Blue with FCS. He was at 99 points, so I knew his ORS was going to be a royal pain to me if I didn't do something about it. So I managed to get all of my guns pointing at it first exchange and took it off the board. Then action denail for me could kick in, and I blocked his squad with an AP. I burned down his 2 Z's before the got to shoot (it was brutal), then it was a matter of focusing down his Blues. He did manage to kill an AP, but that was it. 3-1
So, I didn't make the top table (rurouni won with a 4-0 record), but I did finish a respectable 3-1. My MOV was bad, though, so it put me as the last of the 3-1 finishers at 6th place. But a TIE swarm will generally have a bad MOV in a competitive tournament, so it is to be expected.
