From Zero to Hero (?)...4.Fei Long's New 'Fu

By Rockstar2, in UFS Deck Building

I wanted to take another crack at making my favorite SF character a viable contender in UFS. Especially with his inclusion in SF4, and the incredible way he presses aggression with pokey tech-type attacks I wanted to build a deck that simulates this in-game in UFS.

To be certain, Fei Long hasn't received and love for his new 4.0 character card, and for good reason: Until these last two sets were released, the 'weenie-rush' deck was a veritable myth; viable in theory, horrible in actual practice and application. Simply put, there was no support for Fei Long to function outside of anything but the most casual and goof-ball games.

Then ShadoWar and Zi Mei's support dropped...Hallelujah!!!

This deck was partly inspired by how strong the Air symbol functions, both in pressing Aggression, having Control elements, and just downright having some of the best attacks that had some in-built tech. For certain, i wanted the attack line-up to represent what i thought would be good Jeet Kune Do elements: economical, fast, and debilitating. And, they had to synergize with his Character abilities, so that meant i was definitely NOT going to be running an Air Feline Spike deck.

I'm bored with that kind of tech anyhow...

So, i ran this deck at the local tourney yesterday and took 1st place! In fact, i won all my matches 2 - 0, and no match went past T4. Most kills were T3, and i managed T2 kills on 3 separate occasions during 3 rounds of Swiss.

This deck is still a work in progress, and i would love any kind of feed back to help improve this build. Thank you in advance for reading, and for helping out!

1x 4.Fei Long 7hs 20vp

Actions (8)

4x 2/5 WIllful +2h

4x 5/4 Tag Along

Attacks (14):

4x 6/3 Fury of the Ancients 5m3 (M:3)

4x 4/3 First Rite 3L3 +2L (S:2)

3x 4/3 Double Gale Fist 3L3 +2L

3x 3/3 Zi Mei's Wheel Kick 2h1 +2m (S:3)

Foundations (40):

3x 4/6 Chester's +1m

4x 2/6 LotM +1m

3x 2/6 Soul of the Ling-Sheng Su +2h

4x 1/6 Blinding Rage +1m

4x 2/5 Always in Motion

4x 2/5 Stand Off +3m

3x 2/5 Inhuman Perception +1h

3x 1/5 White Magic +3m

3x 3/4 Mentally Unstable

3x 2/4 Shooting Capoera +2m

3x 2/4 Kabuki Artist

3x 2/4 Long-Standing Rivalry +2h

A few notes about how this deck plays...

I would mulligan for LotM and/or White Magic everytime. Momentum generation is vital to this deck, as playing FotA by T2 is ideal. Tag Along + Mentally Unstable + Kabuki Artist means i can loop FotA's or any other attacks. Kill turn goes something like this...play Stun attacks before FotA...It was very frequent that i would completely tap down my opponent's SA. Clear my card pool with Fei's ability, and then proceed to destroy them by looping FotA.

Stand Off is vital tech as it serves 3 purposes...damage pump, damage neg, and staging area control on my opponent's turn.

Bitter Rivals...yea, that card is very annoying, but i managed to pull out a T3 win vs my opponent when he had 3 of them on the field.

Ichi No Tachi...Also annoying, but i can change the attack zone on FotA, and then take it back to my hand via Mentally Unstable. Or, i can clear it via Fei Long, and then pick it back up with any of the aforementioned Recursion methods.

So...thoughts? Ideas? Comments? All are appreciated and welcomed!

So, out of curiousity...how many of the 30 or so people who've read this deck and didn't comment saw that it was Fei Long and i wasn 't running Feline Spike and instantly tuned out with the words "This Sucks" flashing through their brain?

Just wondering...

Seriously tho'...any ideas on what i could do to streamline this deck would be appreciated. Maybe what should be a 4-of? 3-of or even 2-of? Or maybe some cards that would be good tech? I was contemplating trying to find room for Billiard Player and/or Communing With the Ancients. What might you take out to make room?

If you need white magic and lord of the makai so badly then why do you only have 3 white magic?

Actually i didn't. What i meant to imply was that IF i didn't have either card in hand T1 i would mulligan. However, more often than not i would always have at least one of either card in hand T1.

You NEED 4 Chinese Boxings, and up the Chester's to 4. You don't really need White Magic or Stand Off.

I agree with you about the Chinese Boxing. They're too good not to include. Would you swap them in for either White Magic or Stand Off?

I highly disagree with people that Stand Off is a good card, although honestly, Lord of the Makai *appears* to fulfill your momentum condition.

So...I'm gonna go with Stand Off based on principle, but...

Out of curiosity, what is your reasoning for making that determination about Stand Off? It has literally done the following for me in-play: Boosted damage of my attacks to lethal; reduced incoming attack damage to non-threatening; at times, forced my opponent to commit their board on THEIR turn; at the very least, given my opponent something extra to worry about.

What have you found differently in your games?

He's Shinji `_-;;;;

Stand off is a great, game winning card. I love you for making this deck, and want to play something similar ASAP!

Double post, I know I'm sorry (edit feature?), but how about adding Communicating with the Ancients. +1 to all checks? Autopass for these!

DaiAndOh : Glad you like Fei Long as much as i do; or at least, you appreciate the deck design. A couple notes about what cards you want more of/less of...

Chester's Backing and Inhuman Perception need to be 4-of's.

Long Standing Rivalry isn't really necessary for this deck. After 10 matches i've yet to even play it once. I guess that's saying something about the practicality of the card. Looks great on paper tho, as it synergizes with Fei's ability real well.

Haven't yet experimented with Chinese Boxing in the mix yet, but i assume, from prior personal experience with the card, that it'd be a great addition. Might take out Mentally Unstable, or simply swap 3x Chinese Boxing for the Long Standing Rivalry.

Well...if you ever put the deck together, please let me know how it works for you, and or any newer tech you put into your creation that i didn't for mine.
