Preserving ship tokens.

By Kingsguard, in X-Wing

My ship tokens are still nice and new however, it worries me to think that they may wear out the more I play. Do any of you take steps to improve the life span of any tokens in the game?

Do you mean focus tokens and things? You end up with so many it really doesn't matter if a few die.

A lot of time and good clear nail enamel, and your tokens will be like plastic.

For the dials, I sprayed mine with clear acrylic, and then put a very small plastic washer in between. Not only does it separate mine from my opponents on the table (or when I lend one out), but they look so much deeper... Plus they've stayed beautiful for over a year.

Edit: You could probably do the same thing for the tokens.

You can also try Modge Podge.

Transparent contact paper on all the surfaces.

I even did it with a bunch of focus, evade and critical hit tokens.

Ummm... does that mean I'm OCD?

I have also heard that carefully brushing a liquid super glue along the edges will do wonders for strengthening and protecting the card board bits.

As others have said though, not really worth it for the counters because you end up with so many of them (and will probably buy acrylic ones at some point), only the dials and ship inserts really need protection.

They will provide alternative ship dials and base inserts?

I mostly was talking about ship tokens. You know the thingies you put on the stand bases to identify the ship.

I just put contact paper on mine like I did my dials.

I play *on average* about twice a week. I'm been playing for six months, maybe a year now, not sure. I've not had a single token or dial have any real 'wear' other than when my mates dog ate some ships and a ship base... so thats not a very common occurence. Only issue i've ever had is if you're not careful popping the tokens out of the cardstock first time round they can lift at the edges. But... like everyone else say you will end up with more tokens than you will ever need. FFG are also very good at replacing cardstock if asked nicely and shown any damage to the existing stuff. So tbh i just wouldnt bother. It's probably not worth the time and effort unless you're playing daily.

Most people end up with at least 2, sometimes 3, of ships they play the most like TIE Fighters and X-wings so have multiple ship tokens they can switch around to evenly wear them if need be. Playtime is also a factor. If you play every day then try some of the suggestions above otherwise, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. I use pretty much nothing besides my TIE Fighters after almost a year and cards, tokens and dials are still in excellent shape.

As noted above, don't worry about tokens like stress, ion, shield, etc... You end up with sooooo many. I carry a bag of ~15 of each token, the othe 100 sit in the box.
