Another Woodlands Question re:Farie Market and "non-followers"

By Uvatha, in Talisman Rules Questions

Here's another one..

A player has the "Centaur" as a follower (rolled a 5 when encountering him) and then in the woodlands he draws "Faerie Market" Now can he give the "Centaur" to the player to his right?

Now in the FAQ it says "He cannot choose to ditch" the "Centaur" ok and If he is forced to leave or ditch the Centaur he has to discard it instead aok. Also it says that another character cannot use effects that target a follower that becomes a follower but thats "another character" so am I right in thinking that he can "pass" the Centaur to the player to his right?

or is Passing a card the same as Ditching a card (eg same rule effect). Or even just "players my not pass non-follower followers".

Another interesting thing, when your a toad can you "pass" spells. In the rules it say you cannot "Use" them but keep them until your turned back? is "passing", "using" or am I just reading way to much into the letter of the rules :).

"Passing" is something else than "ditching", so I'd say that, unless specifically prohibited, one can always "pass" an Object or Follower. Same with spells. One can't "cast" a spell as a toad, but there's nothing that prohibits one from "passing" them.

But that opens a whole "kettle of fish" Toads cant gain spells so why can they have one passed to them isn't gaining like getting a spell passed to you? If you can pass a spell to a toad at very least it should be discarded Toads are allowed to keep spells characters had when turned but not after?

Also what about passing a object to a player that can't use it or to a toad it says "if able" on Faerie Market so does that mean if you have one, if the character can use it or both? What was "is" needed was a "passing" clarification in the Woodlands rules.

Getting passed something is not "gaining" something. The toad's spells are effectively in a stasis in most situations, but, again, the rules say nothing about getting passed or passing on spells as a toad, so the character will simply have to live with having fewer spells than when he was "toaded", or having more and potentially discarding down to his spell limit, when he goes back to normal.

Also, I'd say that one can pass on Objects and Followers that a character cannot have, due to alignment or whatever, but they would just have to immediately ditch them, like a character that had changed alignment with these Objects or Followers on them.

I agree with Tiggurix about Toads and passing Spells. It's possible to give and to acquire Spells this way (it's not "gaining", after all).

There's a small problem with "Cards that Become Followers". The fact they are Followers to the character but not to the others means they can be lost by the owner but not acquired by the others, if we look at "passing" process that way. This might be a non-issue with the Centaur, since it's a card that can become a Follower for any character, but Followers that are specific to a character cannot be Followers for others (e.g. Ghoul raised corpses, Minstrel's charmed Animal, Tinkerer's automated Objects, etc...).

I think non-Follower cards cannot be passed during Faerie Market.

Ah good to get a second and third opinion :).

We haven't come across this situation in our group before and it's easier to form an opinion then. But I think we wouldn't allow passing or receiving spells as a frog since they're locked to you original and can't be touched until you turn back. We probably wouldn't allow the passing of 'non-followers' (including centaur) either.

As for objects you can pass anything. If you can't use it because of a restriction it's too bad for you and most likely good tactics from you opponent who's sitting on a teleport spell for next turn. Seriously though, I don't think there's any difference between that and carrying limit.
