Sneaky Farrell

By Kyla, in X-Wing

So, I was thinking about this Tycho/Farrell/Dreis list.

(Yet Another) X-Wing Miniatures Builder

The immediate worries I have are that it's;

A) 3 Ships

B) A-Wings

C) Semi-reliant on ordinance

D) Pilot skill 8 & 7

My thoughts are;

A1) While it is only 3 ships, 2 of those should have little problem staying out of arcs

A2) A swarm can mitigate their maneuverability by breaking formation, but then I still have evasion advantage and mitigate the swarms firepower

B) Tycho's free Marksmanship each round allows him to get a TL, then use a manuever to arc-dodge/close to R1, and get a "super-focus" to ensure high damage yield, while Farrell's Outmaneuver allows him to reduce agility and re-roll a blank. Additionally, with Garven passing his focus to Farrell, then Farrell can rack up 4 actions a turn; Focus, Boost/Barrel roll, then in the Combat Phase; Focus & Boost/Barrel Roll. If he is already/almost in position, then he can TL, then in the Combat Phase; Focus & Boost/Barrel Roll.

C) Ordinance allows for a single potential hit, and provided both Tycho and Farrell get into range at the same time (shouldn't be too hard) 10 red on a Fat Falcon should mitigate the low red output normally.

D) While I have no way to get the first shot, I am sure I can maintain position on Phantoms, it's against Fat Han I'm most worried in this regard. Hopefully, my ability to get a boat load of actions will allow me to have the evade tokens I need and to last long enough.

Looking for feedback - I mostly play at the Game Nights at my FGLS, and social games at my place.

Your signature rocks

Thanks Mei! I like yours too! BTW, I've wanted to mention for a while that I really appreciate your Youtube videos! It was your Rebel Aces video that made me rethink A-Wings (you can tell how that turned out ^.^)

Looks pretty similar to a list I came up with a while back except I had Keyan in there instead of dreis for some increased damage output and tankiness. The only thing I'd be a little concerned about is staying within range of dreis with Jake, although not getting that focus doesn't necessarily ruin him.

Those two A-Wings look really fun to fly. I'd say Dreis is interchangeable.

You've actually addressed about all the concerns that I would normally have. Phantoms are going to be tough, you basically need to nuke them down as fast as you can. If there's anything I've learned it's that green dice can only take you so far (RIP Soontir.)

The Falcon I see as less of an issue honestly. 10 Red dice, especially if you go all out and triple action it up to get Focus+MM+Target Lock you can reliably get 4-5 hits with Tycho (replace MM with another focus for the same effect on Farrell.)

Seriously?

MIght I suggest the standby of Biggs w/R2-F2

The thinking with Dreis is that since it's Range 1-2 that he can pass focus it isn't that much trouble to keep him in the vicinity - this is helped a little more as since the Focus passing is in the Combat Phase, it allows me to boost or barrel roll after activation is done, specifically letting me close on the target if Farrell is slightly out of range to get the Dreis action.

As for replacing Dreis with someone else, Biggs would reduce the range flexibility to Range 1, and ideally I want the late game ship to be the X-Wing as opposed to the A's, who (once they loose their ordinance) are going to be more fragile and lower damage output. Replacing Dreis with Keyan, you really need to have the extra 3pts for PtL, which means I would have to strpi the damage output of the A's to accomplish it.

I haven't used Garven. I think a free boost or barrel is better received at the beginning of the combat phase, via Kyle, than after PS 6 uses it.

Seems like a fun to play rebel variant of the list that won US nationals. I think this list could complete wreck triple action ps7 dash if it becomes as popular as people thing it will. That said I can't imagine running it myself and I think regular turrets would give you fits. Especially ion turrets. I just worry about relying solely on a wings arc dodging for defense when they don't have barrel roll.

I like the list, proton rockets are my new favourite and Garven is my second favourite X-wing pilot. Outmaneuver and Predator is good combination to give the A-wing a little more hitting power, as well it makes you use your speed and maneuverability to get on your opponents tail.

A small but hard hitting squad.

Seriously?

I know I can't believe people keep falling for this gag.

She's got VI on Garven, so he'll be passing the focus before Jake shoots anyway.

funniest post I've ever read on here. laughed heartily.
