So in these days of Fat Han and Gunner seeming to be everywhere in competitive play is the good old Sensor Jammer and Elusiveness a good counter on certain ships.
Let's start with Fat Chewie/Lando who pretty much always have gunner and pretty much never have a focus token (either evade or boost is used.)
Fat Falcon rolls their 3 dice (4 at R1) and gets 2 hits and a blank.
Now it is my turn to modify the dice.
I use Sensor Jammer to reduce this to 1 hit, a blank and a focus. I then use Elusiveness to have them reroll the hit, I get lucky and it comes up a focus, so now we have no hits.
"Gunner" cries my opponent.
He can perform another attack, but I can use Sensor Jammer again and I'll probably have an evade or focus to augment my defense.
On Fat Han specifically you can apply the initial use as with Fat Chewie/Lando.
When they Han the roll, they can only reroll the 1 original blank as Sensor Jammer does not permit that die to be rerolled and the Elusiveness die has already been rerolled and so cannot be done so again.
On the gunner attack follow the logic as for Fat Chewie/Lando with the sensor Jammer die not being rerolled by the Han reroll.
With normal single attack ships or other gunner ships, this works equally well, with standard ships being hard pressed to get hits through and if they burn a focus to get hits, they lose it for defense.
I'm not saying this is a miracle cure, but it could severely curtail damage output and on certain ships, the stress induced is useful or easily mitigated.
On certain ships that can also take an R7 unit and the above Jammer/Elusiveness combo you can mess up Fat Hans roll 1 by having a TL on him and forcing the original roll to be rerolled, thus denying Han his reroll, then use the Jammer/Elusiveness roll against Gunner.
If facing only a gunner or normal ship, you can mess with two attacks a turn.
The trade is potentially a small reduction in damage from your attack, but this may be effective.
