Deathwatch Tournament

By mikecobb, in Deathwatch

So I had this thought a little while ago, wherein I wondered which of all chapter/specialty combos is "best".

Yes, I know it is entirely up to the player. Nonetheless I chased that thought down the rabbit hole, so to speak, and it led me to the Deathwatch Tournament.

Now obviously some combos are much more damaging than others. Straight combat would be too one-sided.

So I devised 9 different arenas, each composed of unique elements so that no one combo is going to dominate everything. Some specialties will have advsntage in some arenas, others will dominate different arenas. Some are populated with NPCs. There are a half dozen mission objectives too, so victory may not depend upon your fitness in curb-stomping your foe.

Matches would be randomized, as would arena and objective. Creation would be by point-buy.

Before I go too much more into this I want to know: does this concept interest anyone else?

The idea of a tournament between chapters does interest me somewhat. I'm suddenly reminded of the Feast of Blades between the Imperial Fists and their successors. Having one between the various members in the Deathwatch could be quite an adventure. Not sure if I'd run it the way you've set it up, but keep going. I think the idea has definite potential.

This interests me very much. I would definitely participate. In addition to the feasts of blades, I am also reminded of the ritual duals fought between the lion and the wolf. It sounds exciting and awesome. I presume that you propose to host this event and set it up, and want to gauge interest to make sure you're not wasting your time?

I will say this- it would definitely make a difference whether we knew the possible 'events' beforehand or not. Knowing beforehand would allow max 'munchkinizing' in the words of herichimo, not knowing beforehand may allow someone to benefit hugely from blind luck in taking something that happened to be useful in the match they wound up taking place within. Both ways have merit, I'm just wondering what direction you're leaning.

I would host and moderate, though I may need some help reffing matches.

As far as munchkinizing, my intention had been to inform competitors of their opponent and the arena (the conditions of each and maps would be made public to all). The objective, however, would be a surprise. Because the arenas are themed (eg- there is one full of locked doors with internal security measures), the competitors ought to figure out a basic set of gear to req before the match.

Of course objectives for victory arent always going to be as neanderthalic as 'kill the other guy'

So as far as interest checks go, this one seems to have fizzled. So nobody is intetested in a set of one on one missions?

I'm interested! What did you have in mind for the point buy and character creation?

Creation would be rule book standard with 100 point for point buy.

I would like a roster of as many as 16.
